For a long time, a good number of users have used the platforms that Google makes available to us. One of them is remote cloud storage that allows us to save all types of files on the search giant’s servers.
In fact, there are many technology companies that currently offer us this type of services, either for free or for a fee. Normally, they offer us a subscription at no cost limited to a certain storage space. To increase it, we will normally have to pay for a more advanced subscription.
Some time ago many opted for this modality through what is known as the search firm’s G Suite. But we must keep in mind that Google changed the name of G Suite to Workspace last year 2020. In addition, it required users to migrate to the new subscriptions it launched on the market.
But despite the change, Google notified former users of the free edition of G Suite by email that their subscription to additional storage was canceled. Furthermore, they added that they could keep the extra storage for free. What’s more, several users have reported that the company has refunded them the last amount they paid for their subscription to additional storage.
However, Google’s effort fell short among some G Suite users. Especially among those whose accounts were more than a decade old, when G Suite was called Google Apps for Work.
How long will Google keep the offer?
In the end, Google allowed legacy free G Suite users to keep their accounts for personal use and purchase additional storage through a separate subscription. Over the years, the company also closed some old versions of its work applications in this subscription mode.
Additionally, as of June 2022, the firm has maintained that legacy G Suite storage add-ons are no longer available for purchase. But now, the company has started canceling the subscriptions of these legacy users, giving them free storage in exchange.
This is something that has begun to be communicated via email, where it is also confirmed that the storage subscription purchased at the time has been cancelled. This cancellation is due to changes in the management of Google Workspace accounts, but you will not be charged for this additional storage. Likewise, despite the cancellation, the storage limit does not change. This means that subscribed users will be able to have this additional storage at no cost.
In fact, a Google spokesperson confirmed that customers who received this notification will maintain their storage allocation and can continue using their existing account at no cost. The change also applies to migrated users who still have an additional storage subscription through Google Play.
What is not known at the moment is how long Google will maintain this free storage offer for these users. Until then, former G Suite subscribers will be able to continue enjoying this benefit at no cost.
