In addition to hundreds of thousands of families fleeing, trying to find shelter from the bombs, and destroyed buildings, the war in Ukraine is leaving other unusual images, such as a BMW 6 Series modified to install a machine gun turret.
As you are reading it. Ukrainians have modified a first-generation BMW 6 Series into a combat vehicle, adding a Soviet NSV machine gun turret chambered for 12.7×108.
It is a weapon similar to those used in the Russian T-72 tanks, which was in service until 1971 in several conflicts in which the former Soviet Union was involved, in the midst of the Cold War. The video where the modified car appears has been released by the Twitter user @UAWeapons.

It may look like something out of a war video game, but it’s totally real. To achieve this, they first removed the trunk lid and then mounted a structure to support the machine gun.
Those responsible for this “tuning” chose a Series 6 for the possibility of removing the roof and for its load capacity. We do not know the model and the engine, beyond the fact that it is a first generation E64 6 Series.

Recall that the range of that 6 Series began with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder 630i that produced 272 hp. But there were also 4.4-liter V8 versions with 325 hp.
What we do know is that this combat BMW has been donated to the police in the city of Mykolaiv, where half of its 500,000 inhabitants have fled in less than a week due to Russian bombing.
In any case, it does not seem that a convertible is the best option to protect yourself from enemy fire in a war zone. On the other hand, the additional weight of the machine gun and ammunition, as well as the soldiers on top, is likely to affect the performance of the vehicle.
