Cupra plans to sell 500,000 units in 2025 and for this it will rely on three new models: Terramar, Tavascan and UrbanRebel

Cupra Unstoppable Impulse, or in Spanish, Imparable Impulse. Yesterday was a day of celebration, a day to build muscle and, above all, a declaration of intent as to how far Cupra wants to go in the coming years.

And he did it in an iconic place with a great emotional bond for Cupra and his tribe: the Terramar Race Track (Sitges, Barcelona). The place where 4 years ago, on February 22, 2018, the presentation of a new brand was held, a Seat spin-off, aimed at a very niche audience, a lover of the Spanish brand’s Cupra special series.

Cupra Unstoppable Impulse

As Wayne Griffiths, CEO of Cupra and Seat, recalled, “a new brand was born here that few believed in and now it is growing at an unstoppable rate.”

And the numbers support this, because up to now Cupra has already delivered 200,000 units and has gone from invoicing 430 million in 2018 to closing in 2021 with almost 2,200 million euros. A figure well above expectations.

Logical that Griffiths indicated that the limits for Cupra are themselves.

Indeed, yesterday was a day of celebration for what has been achieved, and also a golden opportunity to show what they want to achieve in the coming years: grow and expand. And consolidate Cupra, as an independent brand.

“Tonight we show all the models that are part of the new generation of Cupra heroes, which will arrive between now and 2025,” announced Wayne Griffiths.

Cupra Urban Rebel

In this sense, the CEO of Cupra provided an ambitious figure: “Our medium-term goal is to deliver 500,000 units per year in 2025 and drive our expansion into new markets.”

And those new markets are South America, Mexico, Israel but also Australia, where the first Cupra Garage will soon be inaugurated in Melbourne. Quite a milestone.

And how do they intend to achieve such ambitious goals? With three weight levers: the Cupra Terramar, the Cupra Tavascan and the Cupra UrbanRebel. You can see them in this video.

Three models that, as indicated by Antonino Labate, Director of Strategy, Business and Operations at Cupra, have the essence of the brand: disruptive attitude, rebellious spirit and unconventional mentality.

We go on to review Cupra’s trio of aces for the coming years.

Cupra Earthsea

Developed in cooperation with Audi – that’s nothing – and named after the legendary circuit where Cupra was born, it is the brand’s first electrified SUV.

It is a 4.5 meter long SUV, very muscular, which debuts the Cupra light signature made up of a set of triangular LEDs.

It will be the last Cupra with internal combustion engines, and it will be available with a new generation of PHEV systems, with up to 100 km of autonomy in 100% electric.

It will be manufactured at the plant in Györ (Hungary) and will reach the market in 2024.

cupra tavascan

The next promoter of Cupra’s strategy will be the Tavascan, which, according to Jorge Díez, Cupra and Seat Design Director, “represents everything that Cupra is”.

The standard Cupra Tavascan will remain faithful to the prototype presented at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, it will be a fully electric SUV.

It will have a very daring design, with prominent shoulders and a very striking interior, as can be seen in the image above these lines. According to Jorge Díez, Cupra Design Director, the interior of the standard Tavascan will be as is.

The new Cupra Tavascan will also be launched in 2024.

Cupra Urban Rebel

The latest model of this trio of aces is the Cupra UrbanRebel, and yesterday it was, without a doubt, the hero of the night. An urban electric car.

Based on the Volkswagen Group’s front-wheel drive MEB platform for small vehicles, it is, in the words of Werner Tietz, Vice President of R&D&i at Cupra, “Cupra’s biggest project in the coming years”.

226 hp (166 kW) of power, acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, a range of up to 440 km and a design that leaves no one indifferent, the Cupra UrbanRebel will hit the market in 2025.

The Cupra UrbanRebel is expected to be manufactured in Martorell, subject to the PERTE for Electric and Connected Vehicles (VEC).

Cupra Formentor, Leon and Born

In addition to this trio, in the event held yesterday it was also possible to see (less than seconds) how the restylings of the models that currently make up the Cupra range will be.

Thus, the most striking thing was the design change that the Cupra León will undergo, and that it will have a much more refined front end more in line with the brand’s design language.

New Cupra Leon (facelift)

Cupra Formentor, Cupra Born and Cupra León will be renewed in 2025.

As a culmination to a day of celebration, those attending the event were able to enjoy seeing the Terramar al Tavascan or the Cupra e-Racer circulate around the racetrack.

In the video you can see the sound and light show projected on one of the embankments of the Terramar racetrack.

Without a doubt, an icing on a very tasty cake…

And the future of Seat? And the one from Martorell?

Yesterday’s night was undoubtedly the night of Cupra, a night that neither the Catalan politicians wanted to miss, nor the Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, nor the president of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Pere Aragonés, or the president of Navarra, Maria Chivita.

Even Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche, and representatives of the Porsche and Piëch families, shareholders of the Volkswagen Group, were present.

Even so, a buzz was planned in the air: what will happen to Seat? You can speculate a lot, especially considering that today there are no fully electric models planned for Seat.

What’s more, those who had the opportunity to interview Wayne Griffiths commented that the CEO of Cupra was somewhat angry about questions about the future of the Spanish brand, with no plans for an electric car today.

In this sense, it is pointed out that in 2027-2028 the production of Seat models could cease, although according to La Tribuna de Automoción, that “the transformations in which we are embarked do not mean that we are going to sacrifice it”. Griffiths said.

Regarding future production in Martorell and the fact that there are more electric cars in its portfolio, and according to the same medium, “it will depend on the success of the Cupra brand in the future, and we are demonstrating this,” Griffiths said.
