Today we are going to detail five secrets of the Kia EV9, the new electric SUV with up to 541 kilometers of autonomy that the Korean manufacturer has just revealed.
The Kia EV9 is the latest from the South Korean manufacturer. It arrives to form a pair with the Kia EV6 within a new family of electric vehicles and is positioned as the largest car of the brand. Only a few hours have passed since its official debut, but in this article we are going to detail five secrets of the Kia EV9, the new electric SUV with up to 541 kilometers of autonomy.
The model in question is a large SUV at just over 5 meters in length that embraces Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy. This represents a polygonal style, with muscular lines and large proportions that give the model presence and character. The EV9 is totally electric and a technological marvel with the latest advances of the brand.
So you can stay up to date with what this new model has to offer, here are five key secrets you need to know about the EV9, a summary of everything that Kia’s new flagship brings with it.
Five secrets of the Kia EV9, the new electric SUV with 541 km of autonomy
seating configurations
With the EV9, Kia offers a larger vehicle designed for large families. For this reason, the interior of the new electric car offers six or seven seats divided into three rows of seats. The highlight is that you can choose four seating configurations for the second and third row, allowing you to tailor the EV9 cabin to your needs.
The second row can include a 3-seater ramrod with two other rear seats in a third row, or two independent seats that can be of three types: standard, relax or swivel. If you choose the swivel seat option, this will rotate 180 degrees to create an office or meeting place on board, as the second and third rows will face each other.
In addition, if second row relax seats are fitted, first and second row passengers can recline the seatbacks to a more comfortable position while the car is charging the battery.
three power levels
Initially, the Kia EV9 will land on the market with three different power levels. The entry-level version with rear-wheel drive that develops 150 kW (204 hp) of power with 350 Nm of torque fed by a 76.1 kWh lithium-ion battery.
Slightly more powerful is the 160 kW (218 hp) rear-wheel drive version, which has a 99.8 kWh battery for an announced range of 541 kilometers per charge, according to WLTP certification cycle specifications.
Finally, the third version is the only one equipped with two electric motors, for the moment. It has four-wheel drive and a combined power of 283 kW (385 hp) and 600 Nm of torque, fed by the 99.8 kWh battery. Its autonomy has not been announced at the moment, but the torque can increase up to 700 Nm thanks to the Boost function.
GT version confirmed
Although the range will initially consist of three different engines, Kia has already confirmed that it is working on an even more powerful version that will be called EV9 GT. The version won’t arrive until early 2025, but it will, presumably, with the same powertrain as the EV6 GT.
This version is equipped with two electric motors with 430 kW (585 hp) of power and 740 Nm of torque, which in this case are powered by a 77.4 kWh battery, although the EV9 GT should come with the 99.8 unit kWh. The EV6 GT has all-wheel drive and can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
Boost function
Apart from the GT version confirmed for 2025, the most powerful model within the Kia EV9 range is the four-wheel drive version with 385 HP of power and 600 Nm of torque. Although these figures are respectable enough for an electric SUV with up to seven seats, thanks to the Boost function its records can be improved.
According to Kia, the EV9 AWD can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.0 seconds with its original specifications. By activating the Boost function, the engine torque increases to 700 Nm, giving an acceleration boost that reduces the time needed to reach 100 km/h to 5.3 seconds.
Improvement of equipment from a digital store
Finally, the fifth secret of the Kia EV9 is that it will offer equipment upgrades from a digital store. It’s called the Kia Connect Store and it will allow you to purchase new features and activate others by “buying” these features as if it were the Apple App Store.
Kia explains that in the EV9 you can implement digital functions and services, such as adding the ‘Lightning Pattern’ function to the ‘Digital Pattern Lightning Grille’ technology, acquiring the Boost function, the intelligent remote parking assistant or accessing streaming content, among others.
