Electric SUV, the car of the moment
There is a very thriving segment in which all premium brands are entering strongly, that of large electric SUVs. The last representative to arrive has been the Lexus RZ 450e and these are its five worst rivals.
The large electric SUV segment is booming. It is the type of car that premium brands are betting on the most, because, due to their characteristics and dimensions, they allow storing large battery packs that provide good autonomy without reducing habitability too much.
This category is full of several important models that have arrived in recent months. Now it has a new member, presented last week, the Lexus RZ 450e, the first electric model of the Japanese brand developed from scratch.
A very important car for Lexus, built on the e-TNGA platform, the same as the Toyota bZ4x and Subaru Solterra, and loaded with new technologies, such as Direct4 traction or the futuristic One Motion Grip steering.
The RZ 450e is moved by two electric motors located one on each axle, with a combined power of 313 hp and 435 Nm of torque. With this configuration, it manages to have all-wheel drive and is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.

We are facing a medium-large size SUV, with measurements of 4.80 meters long, 1.89 meters wide and 1.63 meters high, good habitability and a 550-liter trunk.
These are the five worst rivals to the Lexus RZ 450e.

The BMW iX3 is the electric version of the X3 and has been recently renewed. The BMW electric SUV stands as one of the best alternatives within the premium electric SUV segment.
One of its main assets is, in addition to its very similar design to the combustion model, its autonomy. Thanks to a useful 73.8 kWh battery, it homologates 461 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.
The downside is that it is only offered with rear-wheel drive, there is currently no variant with all-wheel drive. It has a single 286 hp electric motor and very complete standard equipment.
Tesla Model Y
The Tesla Model Y is based on the Model 3, but with an SUV body. One of the advantages of this model, compared to the Lexus, is that it can be ordered with seven seats optionally, thanks to the inclusion of two folding seats in the trunk.
The Model Y also wins in terms of autonomy. It is offered in two versions. Great Autonomy and Performance, with 351 and 480 CV, respectively. In the first case, it homologates 507 kilometers with a single recharge and in the second 480 kilometers, thanks to a battery with a useful capacity of 75 kWh.
Ford Mustang Mach-E
Ford decided to name its first electric SUV after one of the most iconic sports cars of all time, the Mustang. Without being a sports car, if we are facing an SUV that offers a certain dynamic and fun behavior on mountain roads.
It is available in five versions:
- standard, with 269 hp, rear-wheel drive and 440 kilometers of autonomy.
- the same, but with all-wheel drive and 400 kilometers of autonomy.
- extended range, with 294 hp, rear-wheel drive and 610 kilometers of autonomy.
- extended range, with 351 hp and all-wheel drive, with 540 kilometers of autonomy.
- Mach-E GT, with 487 hp, all-wheel drive and 500 kilometers of autonomy.
Battery size ranges from 76 to 99 kWh gross capacity. A peculiarity of the Mustang Mach-E is that it has two trunks, one in front of 81 liters and the main one of 402 liters.
Audi eTron

It has a lithium-ion battery with a theoretical capacity of 80 kWh.
It is one of the electric SUVs with a more refined and quiet ride. It does not stand out for being the most comfortable or fastest, but it has more than enough power to safely overtake.
