The ’93’ is back.

Marc Márquez has been discharged and will race in the MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas at the Austin Circuit, one of his favorite tracks. The Catalan rider has overcome the episode of diplopia that had forced him to miss the Argentine Grand Prix and will return to the controls of the MotoGP Honda this weekend.

Márquez was out since his very strong fall in Mandalika (Indonesia) last Sunday, March 20. He did not run there as a precaution after the blow, although he had nothing broken, but when he returned to Spain, the man from Cervera began to notice double vision (diplopia).

This injury had already made him stay away from the circuits at two points in his career, in 2011 when the Moto2 title was at stake, and at the end of last year, when he was forced to sit out the last rounds of the season after taking a blow to the head while training practicing motocross.

The recovery this time has lasted a little over two weeks, in which the eight-time world champion has rested but has also continued his physical training in the gym. And, this same Tuesday, he went through a ‘litmus test’, a test at the Alcarrás Circuit with the street Honda CBR 6000RR, at the controls of which he felt comfortable.

That and the approval of the doctors who follow him has been enough for the Honda pilot to take the plane and go to the United States.

“It’s a great feeling to be back and especially to do it on one of my favorite circuits. Regardless of the situation, I really enjoy driving in Texas and I have incredible memories there,” said Marc.

“We have work to do after losing two races and the whole weekend in Argentina, so I’m not here to set a target at the moment. There are many things to do and consider, but the important thing is that we get back on the motorcycle this weekend,” he adds.

Márquez ‘rejoins’ MotoGP just three weeks after suffering that heavy crash in Indonesia, and returns to Austin (USA), a circuit he likes and where he has won eight times. The last one, in fact, was last year, when he was still recovering from the shoulder injury that kept him out of MotoGP for almost a year.

After just three races this season, Aleix Espargaró – winner of last weekend’s Argentine Grand Prix – leads the championship with 45 points, just seven more than Brad Binder has. Márquez has the eleven points achieved in the Qatar GP that opened the World Championship a month ago.
