The Ioniq 6, Hyundai’s aerodynamic electric saloon, has revealed all its details and features. The model will begin production this summer.
A little over two weeks ago, the first official data of the new Ioniq 6 was revealed, Hyundai’s new electric saloon and the second model of the Ioniq sub-brand, along with the Ioniq 5 that was presented at the beginning of last year. Now, the new model has revealed all its details and specifications, such as autonomy, recharging times or consumption.
According to Hyundai, the Ioniq 6 “is designed as a special place to be.” From the model, the brand highlights a set of advanced technologies, space, personalized functions and ample autonomy. They also mention its design and define the electric saloon as an electrified streamliner.
New Ioniq 6: exterior and interior design
Based on Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the Ioniq 6 offers a long 2,950mm wheelbase resting on 18- or 20-inch wheels. The external measurements are: 4,855 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,495 mm high.
The exterior design is very characteristic, with a front featuring a very aerodynamic bumper, peculiar flush-mounted headlights with Matrix LED technology, a hood with a descending line towards the front and a rounded roof with a very sloping rear window and a kind of spoiler that integrates a specific brake light.
From the profile, you can see the curved line of the windows, the marked waist, the rear-view mirrors with cameras, the marked wheel arches and the heel cups. At the back, the Ioniq 6 shows off an Ioniq 5-inspired LED headlamp, a spoiler just above it, and a bold bumper with a significant black section.
Inside the Ioniq 6 we find a two-tone ambient lighting system available in 64 colors and six custom themes, optional Relaxation Comfort seats, four USB Type-C and one Type-A ports, a set of 12-inch screens for the multimedia system and the digital instrument cluster and a steering wheel without the Hyundai logo.
The dashboard has very characteristic shapes, with two screens (one on each side) that project the images captured by the side cameras. The lower console is very flat, with storage compartments and some physical switches. Finally, the seats are 30% thinner to favor space and habitability in the rear seats.
A particularity of the Ioniq 6 is the electric performance adjustment system, which allows the driver to freely configure the steering effort, engine power, accelerator pedal sensitivity and transmission system mode. In addition, the Speed Sync function of the ambient lighting system changes the brightness of the light depending on the speed of the vehicle.
Engine, autonomy and recharging
On a mechanical level, the Ioniq 6 will be available in various motor options and battery packs. The long-range unit is 77.4 kWh and can be mated to either a rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive configuration. In fact, the all-wheel drive version develops a power of 239 kW (325 hp) and a maximum torque of 605 Nm. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
There is also a standard 53 kWh battery which, together with the 18-inch tires and rear-wheel drive configuration, achieves an average consumption of 14 kWh/100 km. The autonomy, in the best of cases, reaches 610 kilometers.
The Ioniq 6 supports both 400V and 800V charging infrastructures, allowing you to charge from 10% to 80% of your battery level in just 18 minutes from a 350kW fast charging station. Like the Ioniq 5, the electric saloon includes the bidirectional charging (V2L) function that allows you to power any electrical device using the car as a power source.
Technology and security
At the technology level, the Ioniq 6 includes elements such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker Bose sound system, the Bluelink infotainment system and a full complement of security systems and driving assistants within the Hyundai SmartSense package.
Notable assistants include highway driving assistance, intelligent cruise control, forward collision avoidance assist, intelligent speed limit assist, high beam assist, driver attention warning, blind spot collision avoidance assist , blind spot monitoring, safe exit alert and remote parking.
The new Ioniq 6 will hit the market available in 12 exterior colors between pearlescent, matte and metallic paint, and will offer up to four color combinations for the interior. Production will start during the third quarter of 2022, although at the moment the prices of the Ioniq 6 and an estimated date of arrival on the European market have not been announced.
