Traveling with the house in tow has many advantages. Among them, the freedom of not having to think in advance where you are going to sleep or of being able to change your plans at any time. But, beware, that does not mean that you can do what you want where you want. We tell you where it is allowed to park a motorhome and where you can be fined for doing so.
Camping, overnight or parking
It is not the same that you are going to stop the motorhome for a few hours to visit a place or even to sleep or that your intention is to spend the night taking out the tables, the awning…
In this regard, the regulations contemplate three situations:
- Overnight is considered when one or more people spend the night inside the motorhome, but without deployment of any kind

Camping involves taking out an element that exceeds its dimensions: table and chairs, deploying an awning… You won’t even be able to open the windows if they are hinged. In Spain you can only camp in authorized places, such as campsites.

Parking a motorhome is the same as parking any other vehicle. A car park is, therefore, a prolonged stop that the driver makes in an authorized space (public or private parking space).
Where is it allowed to park a motorhome
Now that we know the differences between camping, staying overnight and parking (or parking) let’s see where it is possible to carry out this last action legally.
When it comes to parking, the DGT rule considers motorhomes as just another vehicle. In other words, there is no specific law that establishes where a motorhome can be parked and where not.
Based on this, you will be able to park in any place enabled for vehicle parking, as long as the dimensions allow it (therefore, yes, you can park a motorhome on the street).
The latter, what your motorhome measures, is the key to choosing a parking space. Due to its length it will be almost impossible for you to park in battery spaces; but you can do it in online parking lots. Remember that wherever you park, the motorhome cannot be outside the lines that delimit the parking space.
What fines can they give you?
It is also important to take a look around in case any municipal ordinance limits parking for certain vehicles (by height or weight) or specifically for motorhomes (it is not usual).
The fines for parking the motorhome in a place not allowed are the same as if you did it with a car, motorcycle, van or any other vehicle.
