The Peugeot 308 family is the second body available for the French compact, which transfers the new visual identity of the model to a much more versatile and capable format. It is the most practical version and maintains all the virtues of the five-door variant. This is all there is to know about her.
The design of the Peugeot 308 family
Integrating the design of a compact into a family body is not an easy task and on many occasions it loses part of its essence along the way, but Peugeot has managed to avoid it and has created a SW version that maintains all the appeal of the five-door, but adds a plus of versatility.
The front continues to enter through the eyes thanks to the large grille that features a striking chrome pattern. In addition, details such as the slim light clusters or the daytime running lights that plunge sharply into the bumper also contribute to its presence.
The vehicle as a whole is clean and very athletic, subtly marking muscle and integrating the elongated rear in a successful manner, achieving a fairly stylized profile or with a certain sportiness thanks to elements such as the rear spoiler.
The space of the Peugeot 308 SW
As is logical from its concept, it is larger than the standard 308. It increases its length from 4.36 to 4.63 meters, extra space that is dedicated both to the wheelbase and to the rear to increase the capacity of the trunk. This is 608 liters, but can be expanded to 1,634 liters if the rear seats are folded down.
In addition, due to the shape of the bodywork, the occupants of the rear seats also benefit from more space for the head.
Peugeot 308 SW engine range
It has a mechanical range identical to that of the five-door Peugeot 308, which implies an offer of both gasoline and diesel engines, crowned by two plug-in hybrid variants.
The only diesel block available is the 130 hp 1.5 BlueHDI, which can have a manual or automatic gearbox, while the petrol is a 1.2 PureTech in 110 and 130 hp versions, the first only manual and the second manual or automatic.
The most prominent options, however, are the PHEVs. The access one delivers 180 hp and the superior one 225 hp, they have a 12.4 kWh capacity battery, they have an electric range of up to 60 kilometers and they enjoy the DGT Zero label.
First impressions behind the wheel of the Peugeot 308 SW
For now at Autobild we have tested the Peugeot 308 SW BlueHDi 130, which is one of the access versions and the 180 hp plug-in hybrid.
Of the first we have commented that its “driving is pleasant due to the comfortable chassis, which only gets a little flustered in short potholes, and the steering has a good touch, although somewhat lacking in feedback” and that with “a range of 960 kilometers, you can cover non-stop any trip you propose”.
Of the second we have pointed out that it is “a very balanced car”, although “the steering is a bit soft and it lacks some weight and solidity”.
Also, during the test, without going slow, it spent “an average of 8.0 liters, once the battery was depleted. So it doesn’t seem so much for when it’s time to do big tours”.
