The Moves Plan finances part of the cost of buying an electric, plug-in hybrid, gas or hydrogen vehicle

If you are thinking of buying an electric car, a plug-in hybrid, a gas-powered vehicle or even a hydrogen one, you should know that you can get a discount of up to 7,000 euros. The magic words to reach it are Plan Moves III.

In the next few lines we are going to answer the four key questions to request aid for the purchase of efficient vehicles.

What is the Moves III Plan?

The Moves Plan is the Government’s aid program for the purchase of efficient and sustainable vehicles. Its origin dates back to 2019 when it was approved as an interpretation of the PIVE Plan adapted to new forms of mobility: like this one, it is intended to promote the renewal of the vehicle fleet but only finances the purchase of low-emission models.

Moves is coordinated by the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), a body under the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO), but the autonomous communities are in charge of receiving applications and distributing aid .

How much do you give for the Moves III Plan?

The first Moves Plan entered into force on February 16, 2019, endowed with 45 million euros. The one that is now in effect is the third edition of the incentive program. Its budget is much larger: it started in April with 400 million euros and the promise that if there was enough demand, the figure would double.

Demand has been (plenty) and Moves III was extended in November until against with a total budget of 800 million euros that are distributed among the autonomous communities based on their number of registered inhabitants.

Aid Plan Moves Fleets

The amount of aid to be received depends on several factors. The most important is the type of vehicle to finance.

As the table above shows, the bases of the Moves III Plan establish that the maximum aid will be for battery and fuel cell electric vehicles, as well as for plug-in hybrids with an electric range equal to or greater than 90 km. These can get a discount of up to 7,000 euros, as long as the beneficiaries deliver a vehicle to scrap. . PHEVs with less autonomy can get a discount of up to 4,500 euros.

Who can take advantage of the Moves III Plan?

The third edition of Moves includes aid for individuals, the self-employed and companies (of any size, although the Moves Fleets Plan is reserved for large companies with dozens of vehicles, which has already exhausted its 2023 edition).

New, in-stock (0 km) and leasing vehicles can be financed, provided that their sale price, before taxes, does not exceed 45,000 euros (with the exception of hydrogen vehicles, which have no limit). .

It is important to note that people with reduced mobility, those who can prove they belong to a large family and those who live in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants will receive a 10% bonus up to a maximum aid of 7,700 euros.

Those who certify that the vehicle is purchased to be used as a taxi or rental vehicle with driver (VTC) also add 10% to the Moves Plan aid.

When does the Moves 3 Plan end?

The Moves 3 Plan was announced by the Government in April 2021. Among its peculiarities, it was striking that it would not be in force for one year, but almost two.

The bases of the aid program establish that these may be requested until December 31, 2023. However, the fine print specifies that the distribution of incentives will end once the budget is exhausted. This means that, to this day, many autonomies continue to receive requests even though all the money has been exhausted for a long time. In this link we show you what the real situation of Moves III is and how much money is left.
