PlayStation Network is not working correctly and this causes many users to be unable to access it. This is a global interruption and it is not possible to access the games, nor the platform’s website. But what exactly is happening? Is this a cyber attack? In this article, we are going to try to inform you what is happening, in case you have tried to access it and found that it is not possible.
This affects everyone who has PS5 or PS4. Basically, it is not possible to play online. You cannot enter the platform and start a game. It has been like this for several hours and the problem has not been visible in Europe until early this morning, when users began to start their console to play.
Problems for PlayStation Network
If you enter the website of Downdetectorthe page where we can see the status of any page or online service, we see a clear peak around 2:30 in the morning in Spain. That’s when the PlayStation Network servers stopped working.
From the PlayStation status website, they report that users may have problems accessing certain functions of their platform. They indicate that they are working on it, so that it can be operational again normally as soon as possible. This also affects the administration of accounts, PlayStation Video or PlayStation Store, among other services.
Initially, there were also problems with PlayStation Direct, but the platform itself announced that they had fixed the error. The rest of the services have continued to give problems and have issued the HTTP 500 Internal Server Error message. Basically, it is a common error when there is a problem with the server, such as an overload.
Computer attack?
Logically, when faced with a problem of this type, we wonder if there has been a computer attack. At the moment, Sony has not given any official information. There is no message that indicates what could have happened and we can only wait until that happens. At the moment, we can only make a few assumptions.
What computer problem could cause a platform’s servers to stop working? A DDoS attack is the answer. If Sony, or the PlayStation Network servers specifically, have suffered a DDoS attack, that can lead to this outage we’re seeing today.
DDoS attacks rely on multiple requests to access a server. It can affect a website, an online store or any platform or service. We have seen many cases in recent years and they have affected very important companies, leaving customers without access for hours. Think about a store that is paralyzed for an entire day, the economic losses that entails.
In the case of this problem with PlayStation Network, nothing is clear yet. However, if there really has been a computer attack, it is most likely a denial of service or DDoS attack. We will have to wait for an official report from Sony.
