Instead of hours using minutes, this is StoreDot’s goal, to recharge 160 km in 2 minutes with its 100in2 batteries.

The Israeli company StoreDot, manufacturer of EV batteries, has three interesting developments for electric vehicles on its roadmap.

The first of these and the earliest to hit the market, called 100in5, is a battery capable of rapid recharging to offer 100 miles (160 km) of range in 5 minutes. This development may be available in 2024, which is surprising.

The second development is called 100in3 which, as you may have guessed, means recharging 100 miles in 3 minutes, and it will take a little longer: it will be available in 2028, which is not outrageous either.

The third project is the so-called 100in2, which should be ready within a decade, around 2032, and which aims to reach the figure of 100 miles of autonomy in just 2 minutes of recharging.

And how do they get it?

Its secret is that its XFC lithium-ion batteries use silicon anodes instead of graphite, which allows faster recharging and more cycles without battery degradation.

StoreDot batteries are offered in a bag or cylindrical format.

If the 100in5 batteries use a fairly conventional liquid electrolyte, in the other two types of batteries things change. And it is that in the 100in3 the electrolyte would be of semi-solid state, while in the latest development, the 100in2, they would use solid electrolyte, so they would become the batteries with the highest charging speed and with zero risk of explosion.

StoreDot 100in2 batteries will be available in 2032

The batteries will be for sale in two options, cylindrical 4680 format – an idea that comes from Tesla, the well-known manufacturer of electric cars – or in flat bags, to cover a greater range of needs.

Best of all, 100in5 batteries are already being tested in R&D by quite a few electric vehicle manufacturers, so a 2024 on-sale date is more than plausible.

StoreDot already made headlines in 2019 with its demonstration of fast charging a Torrot scooter in just 5 minutes.
