Squad, an electric quadricycle with solar panels that arrives to compete with the Citroën AMI

The segment of electric quadricycles is increasingly crowded. The Citroën AMI is, a priori, the best known but more and more competitors are emerging, including the one that opens these lines: the Squad.

Squad is the brainchild of Robert Hoevers and Chris Klok, two former Lightyear employees who have realized their dream of creating an affordable solar-powered vehicle. It is a small vehicle (occupies 2.4 square meters) designed for zero-emission urban traffic.

The great novelty of Squad is that it is equipped with a solar panel that, according to advances by Squad Mobility, allows it to recover up to 20 km of autonomy each day (the measurement was made on summer days).

Without taking into account the kilometers that it adds thanks to the energy of the sun, the Squad approves a range of 100 km that it can travel thanks to a 4 kW (5.4 CV) electric motor. The recharging process is simple since it has an innovative removable battery technology that facilitates the process and reduces waiting time.

Other data on its technical sheet indicate that it reaches a maximum speed of 45 km/h.

Without being ugly, the Squad does not make great aesthetic boasts. Side doors are optional equipment and can be attached and removed in seconds (or so they promise).

Squad is scheduled to hit the market in 2023. It will cost 7,562 euros (VAT included).

The brand admits reservations of its vehicle, upon payment of a deposit of 50 euros. They affirm that they are already working on a second, somewhat larger alternative: with four seats and a maximum speed of 70 km/h.
