The 4.30-meter Suzuki S-Cross SUV comes with fresh styling and a well-proven mild-hybrid system. This is the test of the Japanese 129 hp
The new Suzuki S-Cross arrives with a new front and rear, and a partially renovated cockpit: at first it sounds more like a facelift than a completely new model, but Suzuki assures us: “Except for the roof, all parts of The bodywork is new, it’s a new car with fresher technology.
Only one engine available
In its offer there is only a 1.4 turbo gasoline engine that mounts a 48-volt system with an integrated generator that, as a 14 hp electric motor, supports starting and acceleration.
For the rest, you can mount all-wheel drive, six-speed manual or automatic transmission, two trim levels, eight colors: voila.
Let’s go in, first test seat in the back. And a first scare: the head hits the ceiling! 1.80 meters is not outrageous for an adult, but our S-Cross mounts the electric glass roof, which costs height.
For the rest, they have renewed the cockpit, the navigation screen is now as big as a tablet and at eye level, everything is easy to operate even while driving.
But there’s been a lot of hard plastic left, no big smartphone fits in the compartment under the climate control and it certainly doesn’t charge by induction, and instead of a mat they chose felt, which somehow doesn’t match the price.
Behaviour
The first sensation is that it is amply motorized with the 1.4-liter turbocharged 129 hp. This promotes relaxed driving without having to deal with the change much, but in no case invites sporty driving, since the chassis and steering prioritize smoothness.
Finally, the on-board computer marks 7.3 liters on the highway, 6.9 in the city. Not bad, but it may get better in the future: Suzuki is planning a full hybrid.
Factors to decide the purchase
This Suzuki comes almost fully equipped from the factory, hence the high price from the base model. With a pleasant size of 4.30 meters, it is sufficiently motorized with 129 CV.
