The Japanese firm has just revealed the Suzuki Jimny 5-door, a larger, more spacious and capable version of the original Jimny, but with the same 4×4 spirit.
It had been in development for a few months and has finally been revealed as the 5-door Suzuki Jimny. Unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo in Delhi, India, this body version is a longer and more practical variant of the Suzuki Jimny, while retaining its exceptional off-road attributes.
As expected, the 5-door Jimny retains most of the aesthetic attributes with the 3-door version. It adds two additional rear doors and increases its wheelbase, but it also debuts a new chrome grille.
Specifically, the new body version measures 3,985 mm long, 1,645 mm wide and 1,720 mm high, with a wheelbase that reaches 2,590 mm. This means it’s 340mm longer than the 3-door Jimny and heavier too, with weights ranging from 1,195-1,210kg (75-125kg more than the original Jimny).
The 5-door Suzuki Jimny is here, same 4×4 spirit, but now more practical
Inside the new 5-door Suzuki Jimny we find newly designed front seats and a trunk that only has 208 liters of volumetric capacity, a figure that grows to 332 liters when the rear seatbacks are folded down, according to Suzuki in a press release. . This means that it has 85 liters more boot space than the 3-door, four-seat Jimny.
Among its equipment we find a multimedia system with a 7 or 9-inch touch screen compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a rear view camera. The model will be offered in two versions, Alpha and Zeta, the second being the one that will equip LED headlights, 15-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, automatic climate control and Arkamys sound system.
Under the hood of the Suzuki SUV is a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine that develops 105PS of power and 135Nm of torque. It is linked to a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic gearbox. In both cases, Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro AWD low-lowering all-wheel drive is standard.
Finally, the off-road dimensions of the Suzuki Jimny 5-door remain almost unchanged. Approach and departure angles are 36 and 50 degrees, respectively, versus 37 and 49 degrees for the Jimny 3-door; while the ventral angle is reduced to 24 degrees, while the original model offers 28 degrees.
Given the problems that Suzuki has experienced to market the Jimny in Spain (currently you can only buy it as a two-seat industrial vehicle) it is almost unlikely that the 5-door version of the model will end up reaching our market. Even so, in other countries it will begin to be sold in May 2023. There are no details on prices.
