– SELF BILD
We call everything a car, but when you drive a new one and an old one, they seem like two totally different things. And if you go from a utility vehicle to a house with wheels, for example, even if you do everything with the B permit… Today we stay in this curious segment, for which you always have to reserve good money and we look for the 5 most vans expensive ones that are sold in Spain.
There are many types, of course, but the commercial vehicles that cost the most euros are not a derivative of tourism with a diaphanous box behind and sheet metal panels. Although they start from something similar, sometimes, we immediately perceive that the space is valued, but the adaptations for specific needs, more.
And in the same way that we told you a long time ago which were the 7 cheapest vans on the market, if we shoot from the top now we will find, fundamentally, camperized vehicles, because they are those that require a major transformation within what is sold in our market. and in a more or less personalized way… but standard.
That is to say: that although anyone can transform their vehicle for their needs and then sell it for the price they consider, given the boom in campervans, we have limited ourselves to those that can be purchased in a more or less official way, on the websites of the manufacturers, with different degrees of ‘tuning’ in collaboration, sometimes, with external preparers.
1.VW Grand California. It is, without a doubt, the reference that should head this list of the 5 most expensive vans sold in Spain, since it starts at almost 80,000 euros (79,155 euros). It is one of the closest alternatives that exist to a motorhome, only within the camper vans.
And as you can see in our test of the VW Grand California, this is due, among other things, to its exterior dimensions, its height, its habitability, its integrated bathroom inside (complete and even with a shower cubicle ) and all its equipment, although it can also be driven with the B permit for passenger cars.
2. Ford Transit Custom Nugget. It is another of the camperized vans that have passed through the editorial staff of AUTO BILD.ES, and surely also one of those that are closest to a motorhome, but with a lower purchase price (from 60,000 euros – our test unit, from 65,000 -), greater agility, similar height and a campervan equipment, yes, one step below.
We, specifically, tested the Ford Transit Custom Nugget Plus L2, the top of the range, which differs from others in the oval catalog because it is somewhat longer than the L1 to integrate a toilet in the rear (the shower is external ) and, above all, it has a hard top that allows you to stop or park anywhere and instantly have a great height.
3 Mercedes Marco Polo. It is another benchmark when it comes to expensive vans. It does not belong to the segment of the VW Grand Galifornia, since it is a van much further from a motorhome than the previous ones, although it has equipment to go on an adventure that must be taken into account, and for very varied prices, which range between 46,848 and 78,700 euros.
To give you an idea, in our test of this Mercedes Marco Polo 300d, we moved in a vehicle 5,140 m long, 1,928 m wide and 1,980 m high with two beds, a shower, a table, a two-seater sofa, front seats with the possibility of turning, vanity mirror, cabinets, sink, refrigerator, kitchen… and from about 56,000 euros. Luxury is also paid!
4.Toyota Proace Verso Camper. Unlike the first two on this list, in our test of the Toyota Proace Verso Camper (just like the Transit it is prepared by the Spanish company Tinkervan), we already verified that even if you have to get off this vehicle for some things because you don’t have as much interior space as in its rivals), there are advantages…
…if they adapt to your use, budget and needs. For example, that the roof is retractable provides less comfort when camping or making a short stop and having to raise and lower it, of course; but in exchange, ride comfort increases by having a lower center of gravity, offering less noise and aerodynamic resistance… and, how can it not be parked in normal car parks.
Its base PVP is much tighter than some of its rivals (37,075 euros), although the finish of our thoroughly tested unit for the test, the Nomad Plus Home Tinkervan, rose another 24,331 euros more. However, due to handling, fuel consumption (especially with its 2.0 150 hp engine) and quality, it offers good value for money.
5 Citroën SpaceTourer XL. Finally, we close our list of the 5 most expensive vans sold in Spain with a different proposal from the camper, but despite being intended for passenger transport it would be the second most expensive (only below the Mercedes Class V , which starts without customizing anything for about 54,000 euros).
We are referring to the Citroën Spacetourer, which despite being a general brand starts at over 40,000 euros and its price cap would be at 47,285, with the illuminating surnames XL, 75 kWh and the Business finish. Among other things, because it has a plug-in mechanics (zero sticker) with a total power of 100 kW (136 hp), 260 Nm and a range of 314 hp.
