The Korean brand has renewed this year its compact crossover for the C segment, whose marketing will begin after the holidays, in September. Let’s see the five worst rivals of the Kia XCeed 2022.
It must be said that the Kia XCeed is a model that does not have many direct competitors. We are facing a crossover derived from a compact, the Kia Ceed, to which slight changes have been applied to the bodywork and a higher ground clearance.
There are few models that meet these requirements. Some of them, as we will see below, are the Ford Focus Active and the Fiat Tipo Cross.
The new XCeed 2022 is an update of the model that has been sold since 2019 and presents some modifications, both aesthetic and, above all, in equipment. Outside, the changes affect the new headlights, redesigned bumpers, LED pilots in the highest finishes, new wheels and three new colors.
Inside, the changes are more subtle. The trunk covers 426 liters in all versions, except the plug-in hybrid variant, which only offers 291 liters, a volume that is too short.
One of the main novelties, in terms of equipment, is the inclusion of the GT Line finish, as has already happened in the new Kia Sportage and Kia Ceed. This finish gives it a sportier touch, thanks to specific external and internal elements, and exclusive upholstery.
The engine range of the Kia XCeed 2022 has not changed. That means we find gasoline options, 48-volt light hybrid gasoline, 48-volt light hybrid diesel, and a plug-in hybrid option. Powers range between 120 and 204 hp.
The Kia XCeed PHEV has a 8.9 kWh capacity battery that provides a range of 61 kilometers, under the WLTP cycle, which guarantees the DGT ZERO label. Mild hybrid variants include ECO label.
Depending on the version, it can have a six-speed manual gearbox with the iMT (intelligent Manual Transmission) system, which allows you to circulate “by sail” even with a gear engaged. The PHEV variant, on the other hand, is only available with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Ford Focus Active
The Ford Foscus Active is one of the direct rivals of the Kia XCeed 2022, because it shares the same philosophy with the Korean: it is a model that derives from the normal Focus, to which the ground clearance has been increased and a series of aesthetic elements to turn it into a crossover.
Both models have practically traced measurements. The Focus Active also allows you to choose from a wide range of powertrains, including mild hybrid options.
Fiat Tipo Cross
Like the Focus and the XCeed, the Type Cross is a “crossover” model, coming from the conventional Fiat Type. With respect to this, the Cross version gains almost seven centimeters of height to the ground.
It is for sale with two trim levels: City Cross and Cross and has a main trunk of 440 liters. The engine range is smaller, with only a 101bhp three-cylinder petrol option and a 131bhp turbodiesel.
Citroen C4
One of the worst rivals of the Kia XCeed 2022 is the Citroën C4, a vehicle that is reaping interesting sales figures. In fact, the electric variant, ë-C4, was the best-selling electric car last July.
The French model opts for a more daring design, as is usual in the chevron brand, and for a more comfortable driving feel, thanks to soft suspensions. It has a smaller trunk than the XCeed and headroom in the rear seats is somewhat limited by the design of the roof.
Mazda CX-30
The CX-30 is a full-fledged SUV, but its dimensions coincide with the Korean model and, after all, they share the same philosophy: a practical and functional vehicle, with a higher position than in a conventional car.
All its engines are electrified, through a 24-volt system, and one of its strong points is the driving feel, more precise and agile than in the Kia.

Finally, another rival of the Kia XCeed 2022 has it, precisely, at home. Indeed, the Kia Niro can be an interesting alternative, in fact, the dimensions are very similar, although with a different philosophy: while the XCeed is aimed at a younger audience, the Niro has a more familiar vocation.
In addition, the Niro can be chosen with three only electrified engines: a pure electric, with 460 kilometers of autonomy, a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid with 64 kilometers of electric autonomy, slightly superior to the XCeed PHEV.
