The second generation of the Kia Niro was released just a few months ago and is already preparing for its landing on the market. The electrified crossover arrives with the same attributes as its predecessor, which enjoyed great commercial success, but this does not prevent it from facing fierce competition. These are the 5 worst rivals of the new Kia Niro.
Kia’s new crossover comes with a body 4,420mm long, 1,825mm wide and 1,545mm high, all on a 2,720mm wheelbase platform. Depending on the version, the boot offers up to 495 liters of volumetric capacity, expandable up to 1,445 liters by folding down the second row of seats.
On a mechanical level, the new Niro arrives with the three electrified propulsion systems that its predecessor boasted. The new generation is offered with a traditional 141 hp hybrid variant and a 1.3 kWh lithium-ion battery that allows it to standardize an average consumption of 4.6 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 105 g/km. .
The second version is the plug-in hybrid Niro, which on this occasion increases power to over 180 hp and is equipped with an 11 kWh battery with which it announces an electric range of up to 65 kilometers on a single charge. In addition, the average consumption is only 1 l/100 km and the emissions are just 24 g/km.
Finally, the 100% electric e-Niro generates 204 hp of power with a single electric motor and a 64 kWh battery. It has a range of more than 460 kilometers on a single charge. At the moment, the brand has not announced the official prices of the new Niro, but its predecessor is available from 22,950 euros with discounts and promotions applied.
Toyota C-HR
The first of the rivals of the new Kia Niro is the Toyota C-HR. It is available with a body 4,390mm long, 1,795mm wide and 1,555mm high, with a 2,640mm wheelbase. The trunk, meanwhile, offers up to 375 liters of volumetric capacity.
In the mechanical section, the C-HR is offered in two traditional hybrid versions, with 125 and 180 horsepower, a consumption of just 4.9 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 110 g/km. In both cases, it has the ECO environmental label from the DGT. Prices start from 27,250 euros.
Honda HR-V
Another model that competes with the new Niro is the also new Honda HR-V. The Japanese crossover has been electrified in this generation, in a model that now features 4,340mm in length, 1,790mm in width and 1,580mm in height, as well as a 2,665mm wheelbase. The trunk has a volumetric capacity of between 335 and 1,300 litres.
For its part, the mechanical range is made up of a single traditional 130 hp hybrid engine with two electric drives and a battery in the rear. Approves 5.4 l/100 km of average consumption and 121 g/km of CO2 emissions. It carries the ECO label and you can have it for a starting price of 31,420 euros.
MG ZSEV
The fully electric MG ZS EV is a model that competes head-to-head with the e-Niro. It is 4,325 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,650 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. The boot, meanwhile, offers between 450 and 1,160 liters of volumetric capacity.
With regard to engines, it is available in two versions. The first with 156 hp and the second with 177 hp, as well as two batteries of different capacities that allow it to travel between 320 and 440 kilometers on a single charge. The official price, including the Moves III Plan aid, is 23,790 euros in the range access version.
Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV
One of the rivals of the new Kia Niro is the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV. It is the plug-in hybrid version of the Japanese crossover, which offers 4,545 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width and 1,685 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,670 mm. The trunk offers 400 liters of expandable volumetric capacity up to 1,150 litres.
The mechanical section is made up of a single plug-in hybrid version with a combined power of 188 hp and two electric drives powered by a 13.8 kWh capacity battery with which it can travel up to 45 km in electric mode. The fifth and last great rival of the new Kia e-Niro is the Renault Mégane E-TECH Electric.
