The DGT has carried out thousands of mini ITVs through a campaign to control the condition of the tires, the lighting or the ITV of the vehicles, among other aspects.

A few weeks ago, the General Directorate of Traffic began a campaign to control the state of the vehicles that circulate on Spanish roads. In total, the DGT has carried out more than 200,000 mini ITVs on the road with very different results.

To reduce accidents on the road, it is just as important to use safety systems, such as seat belts or child seats in the case of the smallest, or not to drive after having consumed alcohol, as it is to have the car in perfect condition.

For this reason, the DGT campaign aimed to intensify vigilance over the state of some parts of the car such as tires, brakes or lighting, among other elements, as well as having the ITV in force.

Precisely, the ITV is an aspect that the agents scrupulously control, since many drivers circulate without having attended the mandatory technical inspection. On the other hand, some delay the replacement of tires and other elements due to economic problems or lack of time.

The DGT has carried out numerous technical, mechanical and documentation checks as mobile ITVs. The controls began with a check of the vehicle and driver’s documentation and continued with a series of visual checks of the condition of the tires, the lighting and other aspects of the vehicles.

These types of controls have been common for many years in trucks and buses, but not in passenger cars.

During the week that the mini ITV lasted, the DGT has controlled a total of 237,660 cars, of which it has sanctioned 10,895. Most of the fines did not have to do with mechanical problems but with not having the ITV up to date.

ITV without passing, the most repeated problem

In total, the DGT intercepted 6,140 vehicles with the ITV pending to pass, 56% of those reported, a record that rises to 65% in the case of vans.

The second most repeated infraction referred to the condition of the tires, with 793 drivers reported, followed by irregularities in the documentation, license plates or lighting.

Lastly, with regard to trucks and goods transport vehicles, the DGT detected the usual problems of weight, load placement and tachograph handling.
