The new generation model will be officially presented during the first half of 2024 and production will take place at the Figueruelas plant in Zaragoza.
Stellantis would have chosen the factory where several Opel brand models have historically been manufactured, to produce the new Ypsilon. Its production will begin in July of next year, which will make it possible to add a new work shift and add 600 more employees to the factory, according to sources consulted by the newspaper Expansión.
The new Lancia Ypsilon will be manufactured in Spain
In Figueruelas the Opel Corsa, the Opel Crossland and the Citroën C3 Aircross are already being assembled. With the new Ypsilon, the Zaragoza plant will have a fourth production line from the middle of next year, from where it will be exported to other European markets, in addition to Spain, for sale.
Initially, the new Lancia Ypsilon is believed to come in hybrid and electric versions, although all models with internal combustion engines will be removed from Lancia’s product range before 2028, the year in which it aims to become a manufacturer. only electric cars.
Currently, the company markets the Lancia Ypsilon in Italy, where it is sold from 17,100 euros. It is the same second-generation model that Lancia put up for sale in 2011 and that, since then, has undergone numerous updates to try to keep the model alive and, above all, a brand that has been on the decline in recent years. , coming to be on the verge of disappearance.
