Next September, Mitsubishi will launch a new compact SUV model and will call it Mitsubishi ASX, a name that already existed and that is recovered to name this model based on the Renault Captur. It will be offered in gasoline and hybrid versions, both conventional and plug-in, and will be produced at the Spanish factory in Valladolid.
After announcing its definitive withdrawal from the European market, Mitsubishi decided to reverse its decision (more information at this link) after the publication of a new strategy within the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi group. In addition to announcing continuity in the European market, the group’s president, Luca de Meo, has opted for the launch of new Mitsubishi vehicles that will take the Renault brand models as a reference and will be manufactured in the European Renault plants.
In the latest statement, the brand revealed that the new ASX will offer five combinations of engine and transmission (two of them hybrid) focused mainly on increasing efficiency and reducing consumption and CO2 emissions.
Access to the range is a 91 hp 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine associated with a 6-speed manual transmission. It is followed by a 1.3-liter direct injection turbo engine that can have either a 6-speed manual transmission and a power of 140 hp, or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a power of 158 hp.
Moving on to the electrified options, the new generation of the ASX will have a hybrid powertrain combining a 1.6-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a clutchless multi-mode gearbox, which will have 145 hp. Finally, the new ASX will also be available in a PHEV version, plug-in hybrid, with the same 1.6-liter gasoline engine combined with two electric motors and a 10.5 kWh battery, adding a total power of 160 hp.
The new Mitsubishi ASX will not begin to be marketed until the beginning of 2023, but in this link you can find the best zero kilometer and second-hand offers of the previous model.
