The season hasn’t started yet, but Alonso and Stroll are having a great time!
The first F1 test day in Bahrain has not been particularly good for Fernando Alonso, as his Alpine A522 has suffered a series of mechanical problems that have prevented him from getting the track time he would have liked. Even so, the Asturian driver has been able to have fun when he has been able to shoot, at times like this, when he has had a ‘pique’ with Lance Stroll.
As you can see in the video that Formula 1 has shared through its official social networks, the fight between Alonso and Stroll begins when the Canadian prepares to overtake the Spaniard on the main straight of the Bahrain Circuit. Alonso then defends himself thanks to the use of DRS, which does not prevent Stroll (who does not use it) from overtaking him at the end of the straight.

The fight, far from ending, continues in the first corner of the circuit, where the Alpine rider pairs up again with the Aston Martin rider to, in the next DRS zone, overtake him again. Stroll, however, does not get up and both pilots have a nice battle in which the sparks were not far from flying. Midway through the lap, Alonso decides to put his foot up and let Lance go.
“I was on my long run, and I think maybe he got frustrated, I didn’t realize he was on a flying lap or something,” Lance Stroll said after testing, according to Motorsport.com.
“I was just trying to follow my race simulation, they told me I was running in 1:40. And I think maybe he was on a cool down lap or he made a mistake and aborted and then got back on the throttle. I don’t know, I don’t I wasn’t sure what show he was doing, but he got a little emotional and stopped in front of me and started fucking with me,” he continued.
“And I just wanted to get on with my run. So I gave it back to him. And then he tried to pass me again, and I just gave him back the pass and kept going.”
These anecdotal images, in which neither of the two drivers played anything, make it clear that the single-seaters can fight each other this season. This was one of the objectives of the new regulation that has been launched in 2022 and, at least for the moment, it seems that it will be fulfilled.
Now it remains to be seen if the differences between the single-seaters are as small as they are expected to be, something that is key for the different teams to fight each other from this season onwards, because otherwise we will see an F1 again in which the fight for wins and podiums is reduced to two or three teams.
