The fight against Internet piracy is the order of the day. For this reason, many governments of different countries have different specialized units to combat them. However, even though they have their own piracy blacklists, sometimes these websites are still working.
The same is what has happened with the piracy blacklist in the United Kingdom, since they do not know how more than 1,500 websites that offer illegal content can remain active. For this reason, they have begun to investigate who is in charge of financing them so that they are still standing and, therefore, how it is possible that they continue to offer pirated content to Internet users.
UK blacklist
In this case we are dealing with the ‘Infringing Website List’, that is, the list of infringing websites (IWL) which, since its creation in 2014, has been able to put an end to thousands of pirate sites. Plus, it’s run by the police, so it’s the tool to let advertisers know which sites to avoid. In this way, the operators of those specific websites are deprived and forced to close them.
However, they still do not understand how it is possible that more than 1,500 sites that are included in that list of offending websites are still in operation today. From the police they believe that, only, when a website is active it is because they obtain income from somewhere and, therefore, it is not worth closing the web.
What are the websites in operation
Although the IWL is in a state of constant flux, as new domains are added while others are removed, the truth is that there are more than 1,530 domains that can be found on the list at this time. So, if so, all these pirate websites would be the ones that are still running despite being blacklisted by the IWL, even after having the support of major rights holders like BPI, IFPI and The Publishers Association or MPA.
Among these websites that offer content illegally are Torrent websites, RARBG, 1337x, TorrentGalaxy or YTS torrent sites. And not only this, but the IWL blacklist also includes several domains that refer to Pirate Bay. Although, as far as is known, the main domain of the site is not included for now.
One of the giants that appears in various domains, along with Bflix and Soap2Day, is Fmovies. As well as websites to get YouTube videos like Yout and YTMate. In any case, they are still operational and it is unknown how they may be working. Therefore, they are trying to find out what is the source of income of these pirate websites in order to put an end to them.
In addition, sooner or later it will be achieved since, according to data from recent years, there have already been more than 4,500 websites that have been eliminated over time after being included in the IWL in the United Kingdom.
