Despite the breakdown of negotiations with Red Bull, Porsche is still looking for a partner to enter Formula 1.
Porsche would not have thrown in the towel on its desire to enter Formula 1 from 2026 despite the breakdown of negotiations with Red Bull. In fact, the plan seems to go ahead and would be on the right track: the latest rumors suggest that now the favorite option to return to the premier class is Williams.
The Stuttgart manufacturer could become the second brand of the Volkswagen Group in Formula 1, after confirming that Audi will be in the Grand Circus from 2026. The new engine regulations, which will come into force on that date, are also from interest of Porsche, and therefore they do not want to let this train pass.
Although it was thought that the end of the negotiations with Red Bull, which did not want to lose the decision-making power of the structure while Porsche wanted to have a say, the sports car manufacturer has continued to explore options. One of them would be Williams, with whom it is rumored that they have approached positions.
It was revealed by the Dutch television ‘Ziggo Sport’ after the United States Grand Prix weekend. Apparently, Porsche and the Grove team, which since 2020 belongs to the American fund Dorilton Capital, would be close to reaching an agreement for the acquisition of 50% by the German company.
The negotiations with the fund would be simpler than with an already established structure, such as Red Bull, since having Porsche as a partner is something that will revalue the team. Instead, Red Bull F1 had other interests and an already established relationship with Honda, which has not completely abandoned F1 at any time.
Everything indicates that Porsche would be responsible for manufacturing the power unit, both the thermal and electrical parts. The German company is very interested in the use of synthetic fuels, which will be used precisely from 2026 in F1.
Porsche’s investment would be a boost for Williams, which remains the worst team on the grid today. Those from Grove, although they are no longer so far from the points, are in last place in the team classification, 18 points behind the penultimate, AlphaTauri.
The arrival of a partner as important as the German would also prevent the disappearance of the historic British team, since, after all, it currently belongs to an investment fund that can decide to sell it if the economic situation so requires.
