It is possible to find a Renault engine in 5 Mercedes Benz models: Class A, Class B, CLA, GLA and GLB.
For a long time, due to an alliance between both brands, there are several Mercedes cars that mount Renault engines in some of their versions. As a general rule, they are the access models in their less powerful variants, but over the years they have been changing: these are the 5 Mercedes Benz that are sold with a Renault engine in 2022.
As among them they share many of these mechanics, first we are going to list which are the cars in question and then we will go into the engines themselves: Mercedes A-Class, Mercedes B-Class, Mercedes CLA, Mercedes GLA and Mercedes GLB.
Therefore, the entire compact family of the German brand, including the SUVs, have some mechanics derived from the French manufacturer, which may be traditional combustion systems or the plug-in hybrid version shared by several of the models.
At the moment of truth, there are three Mercedes mechanics that have Renault origin: those that give rise to the 180, 200 and 250e versions. In the past, the German brand also used some diesel engines from its partner, but for some time now it has been mounting diesel blocks of its own design.
180
The version of access to the compact range of the brand has a French heart, specifically a 1.33 turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine that develops a power of 136 CV. It always associates a front-wheel drive system, but it is possible to choose between a six-speed manual gearbox or an automatic one, depending on the car it is.
The Mercedes models available with this variant are Class A, Class B, CLA, GLA and GLB; and depending on which one they register an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h of between 9 and 10 seconds.
200
The immediately superior variant continues to use the same engine, the 1.33 turbo four-cylinder, but boosted to 163 hp, which allows it to reduce its acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h by about a second compared to to the lower version.
Again it is combined exclusively with front-wheel drive, but can be associated with a manual or automatic transmission depending on the model. It is available in Class A, Class B, CLA, GLA and GLB.
250 e
In the last and third case, the original Renault engine is used as the basis for the plug-in hybrid system with which the entire compact range of the brand is offered, with the exception of the Mercedes GLB.
It is again the 1.33 turbocharged tetracylindrical engine, although in this case it has been raised to 160 hp. Along with it acts a 102 hp electric motor, resulting in one of the highest performance versions of their respective ranges.
They can travel more than 70 kilometers in fully electric mode, which is why the four models have the DGT ZERO label.
