These are the only diesel cars that can enter the ZBE Madrid zone. They are more than you can imagine, since the restrictions are few at the moment.

There are two Low Emissions Special Protection Zones (ZBEDEP) in Madrid: one in the Central District (what used to be Madrid Centra), and another in Plaza Elíptica. These areas are protected spaces where access to all vehicles is not allowed, nor is parking in regulated areas.

Access, mobility and parking are managed by the famous environmental labels which, as you well know, are four: B, C, ECO and Zero Emissions. There is also a fifth category, A, which does not have an environmental label and, therefore, corresponds to cars with the highest polluting power and which is approved by the oldest Euro standards.

The type of fuel does not influence, nor does the level of CO2 emissions that each model homologates. The labels are assigned according to the type of propulsion system it is equipped with (petrol, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, electric, hydrogen or gas), the year of first registration and the European emission regulations in which the vehicle has been homologated. car.

And since diesels are usually the worst considered in terms of pollution, in this article we are going to identify which are the only diesel cars that can enter the ZBE Madrid zone. Actually, there are more than you think, since all those registered after 2006 and who meet the Euro 4, Euro 5 or Euro 6 standards are allowed access.

However, diesel cars without a label (or with category A) are not allowed access to the ZBE of Madrid, unless they are registered in the neighborhoods delimited by these protected areas, which are used for the transport of registered people with reduced mobility or for the transfer of students who attend regulated classes.

Diesel cars with labels B and C can access both low emission zones, but they cannot park in the Central District and cannot use the Regulated Parking Zones (SER). It is mandatory to go directly to a public or private car park, which is connected to the municipal surveillance system to avoid fines.

In the ZBE of Plaza Elíptica, however, access and circulation are allowed.

Meanwhile, diesel cars with an ECO label (those with 12V or 48V light hybrid technology) also have free access, mobility and parking in any of Madrid’s ZBEs.
