Since last May 20, version 7.7.0 of the ITV Station Inspection Procedure Manual has been in force, which involves two new tests.

On May 20, version 7.7.0 of the ITV Station Inspection Procedure Manual came into force, which includes two important new features that you should know if you have to pass the technical inspection of your vehicle soon. Next, we explain the two new ITV tests that are already underway.

The ITV is a procedure that absolutely all vehicles in the Spanish fleet must pass in certain periods of time, depending on the age of the car. The first inspection is four years after its registration and, after that, every two years until it is ten years old. From here, the ITV is annual.

The ITV Station Inspection Procedure Manual develops all the technical criteria that must be applied to vehicle technical inspections and includes two new and important tests, one related to the emission of polluting gases and the other with a security system.

The first refers to the collection of OBFCM or On-Board Fuel Consumption Meter data and consists of collecting data anonymously with the aim of establishing strategies from the point of view of road safety and environmental protection.

According to the new ITV regulations, all light combustion vehicles (including hybrids and plug-in hybrids) registered as of January 1, 2021 must undergo this new test.

This is the collection of data related to fuel consumption (and electrical energy, where appropriate) obtained in real driving conditions at ITV stations, through on-board diagnostic systems, that is, through the OBD connector. .

The manual also establishes that the data collected cannot be used for the result of the inspection and will be deleted as soon as it is sent to the competent authority.

Second novelty, the eCall emergency call system

new test required by the ITV

On the other hand, the second novelty that came into effect on May 20 is the revision of the emergency call system, known as eCall.

It is a security system that vehicles have incorporated since 2018 that allows emergency services to be notified in the event of an accident.

This test is mandatory for M1 and N1 category vehicles and consists, first, of checking that the system exists and all its components are in good condition; and second, to check that the self-diagnostic system does not detect system misuse, abnormality, or warning message.

As explained to Europa Press by the Spanish Association of Collaborating Entities of the Administration in the Technical Inspection of Vehicles (AECA ITV), these changes do not imply “an additional action on the part of the drivers” in the ITV.
