This is how much you will save with the discount of 20 cents per liter that takes effect on April 1

On April 1, the discount of 20 cents per liter of fuel announced by the Government comes into force, first for carriers and, later, for all drivers. As reported by the Minister of Finance, the reduction will be direct (drivers will pay less at the service station); but beyond the how, what really matters to them is how much they are really going to save.

The consumer organization OCU has calculated what the average savings of each driver will be with the star measure of the Response Plan to the war in Ukraine that the Executive has approved.

The OCU experts consider that the measures announced by the Government are “positive, but clearly insufficient”; and has called for “more forcefulness and speed” so that they have a “real effect on the economies of families.”

This is how the Government will discount the 20 cents per liter of fuel

The estimated savings you will achieve with the Government’s measures

With the reduction of 20 cents in the price of a liter of gasoline or diesel (the cost of a kilo of natural gas will also drop by 20 cents), filling the tank will be somewhat more bearable for drivers.

If we take as a reference the price of gasoline today, March 30, and subtract the 20 cents, from April 1 the average amount for this fuel will be around 1.60 cents/litre. Regarding diesel, which today is paid at 1.867 euros/litre, it will be around 1.70 cents/litre.

Fuel station

The OCU has calculated what the real savings of families will be between April 1 and June 30 (deadline set for the end of the promotion).

  • For those who refuel 95 unleaded gasoline, the savings over the next three months will be 75 euros for an average household
  • In the case of diesel, the savings estimated by the consumer organization will be 65 euros

Experts from the consumer association fear that once the term is over and although the Government has assured the measure it could be extended if necessary, “fuel prices will continue to be well above the prices at the beginning of the year.” As a solution, it demands “controls” to avoid an anomalous increase in prices.
