Like it or not, speed cameras are another element of the landscape of our roads. Increasingly varied and with broader features, they do not stop evolving, supposedly for the safety of users, although there are those who think otherwise. Every so often a new typology appears: this is the new mobile speed cameras that already fine in Europe.

At the moment they have only been seen in France, but the logical thing is that they end up expanding to other countries, including Spain. And, when they do, they probably won’t be a big hit with drivers.

These are autonomous mobile radars. They are quite bulky, so it does not have the advantage of the much more compact velolasers, to surprise drivers who do not see them.

However, it has a much better advantage: they do not need an agent to move them from one place to another, they can move on their own whenever the terrain lends itself to it, so identifying them with applications such as Waze to warn other drivers does not it’s no use.

But mobility is not their only strong point, they are also very powerful devices. They have LiDAR technology and are capable of simultaneously controlling four lanes, in both directions of travel and for a stretch of up to 75 metres.

As if that were not enough, they are also capable of acting in curves, so their versatility is even greater, and, as icing on the cake, they are also capable of distinguishing between light and heavy vehicles, to issue the correct fines only when appropriate.

Autonomous mobile radars seem to be the definitive evolution of this type of system, which already has all kinds of variants in its ranks: fixed, conventional mobile, velolaser, stretch and even in versions that analyze the noise of cars.
