Mirai, this is the car with which Toyota shows that it is very serious about hydrogen and not only with hybrid models and electric cars.
Toyota’s commitment to hybrid cars dates back to 1997 when it launched the first generation of the Toyota Prius on the market. Since then, the Asian company has been gradually hybridizing its product offer until it currently has a total of 8 hybrid models without counting its derivatives and other bodies.
In fact, hybrid technology has been so important to the brand that Toyota launched its first pure electric car in late 2021, the Toyota bZ4X. The company is so serious about this technology that it has gradually eliminated diesel engines from its products, leaving aside other traditional and more polluting fuels.

However, there is another branch in which the company is investing a lot of resources: hydrogen. It considers it as a viable alternative for the future that could coexist with electric, displacing other types of fuel, such as synthetics. These efforts are materialized in a car: the Toyota Mirai.
With this car, Toyota shows that it is serious about hydrogen and not just hybrids. The current Toyota Mirai is the second generation of the model and one of the only two hydrogen cars that you can currently buy in Spain.
The first generation was presented in November 2014, while its successor arrived at the end of 2020 with a more solid and viable approach. We are talking about a hydrogen fuel cell car that uses hydrogen (H2) to generate electricity that powers a battery and an electric motor.
Through a chemical reaction that takes place inside the fuel cell, hydrogen makes it possible to generate electricity that recharges a small 1.24 kWh battery and feeds a 134 kW (182 hp) electric motor with 300 Nm of torque. pair. This allows the Mirai to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 175 km/h.
Although its true strength is not in the benefits. We find it in its efficiency. It has three cylindrical tanks for hydrogen with a combined capacity of 142 liters that can be recharged in just 5 minutes. Once full, Toyota’s hydrogen car can travel up to 650 kilometers on a single charge. In addition, it does not emit polluting particles, only water vapor.
It has been on sale in Spain for a few months now with a starting price of 68,900 euros for the Vision version and 75,900 euros for the Luxury finish.
