Five-cylinder turbocharged engine.
Since the 1980s, all-wheel drive and five-cylinder turbo engines have characterized several high-performance models from the German brand. Here we have five old Audi Quattro glories facing off in a Drag Race: who will be the fastest?
To answer this question, Carwow has brought together five legendary Audi Quattro cars, all equipped with the famous five-cylinder turbo engine and four-wheel drive.
The rivals are an Audi Quattro from 1980, with a 2.1-liter engine, 20 valves and 220 hp; a Sport Quattro with 306 hp built to homologate the Group B rally version; a Sport Quattro from Group B, with 500 hp; an Audi S2, with 230 hp and six speeds; and an RS2 Avant, developed together with Porsche, with 315 hp.
Five old glories of Audi Quattro face each other in a Drag Race: which is faster?
There are two things that are surprising in the video: on the one hand, how slow the Audi RS2 Avant is, being more powerful and lighter on paper than other Drag Race participants.
Judging by his time, 16.6 seconds to cover the quarter mile, it suggests that the car has lost around 40% of its power. In fact, it is unable to outperform the S2, despite outperforming it by 85 hp and being lighter.
Even in the recovery test, the RS2 Avant is last, so Audi Heritage must see what happens in that engine.
The other thing that stands out is how they all overtake the Group B Sport Quattro in the first few seconds, until the turbo kicks in and the rally car overtakes all of its rivals with amazing ease, leaving them far behind.
