In parallel to its core business of internal combustion engines, Yamaha has spent substantial time researching and developing electric scooters for more than 30 years. In 1991, the company introduced Frog, its first electric scooter, at the Tokyo Motor Show. Since then, Yamaha has continuously worked on the development of electric scooters and has launched various electric models in various Asian countries.

Urban style for the vast majority

The rubber moldings that are found on the contour of the vehicle not only give the NEO’s a stylish exterior appearance, but also serve as protection against minor bumps and scuffs. In addition, they cover several fastening elements to offer a more stylized finish.

NEO’s is available in two simple and effective colors that perfectly capture its understated yet attractive character: Milky White and Midnight Black. In both cases, a special Aqua color that is destined to become a Yamaha EV trademark is used as a special accent on the battery cover and 3D logos on the NEO’s.

Removable Yamaha lithium-ion battery

Developed and manufactured in-house by Yamaha, this High Energy Density battery offers a range of approximately 37 km on a full charge when tested in WMTC Class 1 in STD mode and a battery temperature of 25°C. The NEO’s are supplied with a battery as standard and the connector and housing for an optional second battery is integrated which can extend the range to approximately 68 km.

Charging can be done with the battery placed in the NEO’s or removed for convenient indoor charging. NEO’s are supplied with a portable battery charger designed to plug into a household power outlet. It takes about 8 hours to fully charge.

The VCU or MCU controls when and how each battery is used. If the battery is running low, it will limit the output power automatically. This will be indicated by a turtle icon on the panel. If an optional second battery is installed, the system switches to the second battery, either when the vehicle comes to a stop during typical stop-and-go urban driving or automatically during a longer non-stop drive.

The combination of a highly efficient direct drive hub-mounted electric motor and Yamaha’s high energy density 50.4V/19.2Ah Lithium-Ion battery provide plenty of torque at all throttle openings for deliver instant performance, excellent starting and continuous acceleration.

Compact LCD panel and Smart Key keyless system

Charge status can be viewed on the battery itself or on the meter when the battery is charging, and a charger connected indicator is also included.

NEO’s is all about comfort and ease of use, and its keyless Smart Key system allows the rider to operate the scooter simply with the smart key in their pocket.

The NEO’s offer a natural, upright riding position with a 795mm seat height and a spacious footboard area designed to provide a comfortable and relaxing ride for a wide range of users with different physical characteristics.

Generous seat cushioning and a carefully thought out handlebar/seat/footrest triangle create an ergonomically efficient design that ensures optimum riding comfort and easy leg reach to the ground for confident starting and stopping. With one battery installed, the NEO’s underseat cargo compartment can fit a jet helmet, and even with an optional second battery installed there’s still room for even a raincoat or other small items.
