Users will no longer have to use bots or reactions to take surveys in the app’s chat groups after the latest platform update.
The popular group chat and video calling platform, Discord, has added a new function that can be very useful and is often used quite a bit on other social networks. This is a native function to create surveys and allow voting, which began to reach users on April 9.
It will be possible to see the results of the survey in real time as it develops. They can be done in both the desktop application and the mobile version.
Specifically, all users with permissions to send messages in a chat can create surveys, and they can be carried out in text channels, direct messages, group messages, or announcement channels. To vote, you must have permissions to view a channel.
Users should keep in mind that, at the moment, it is not possible to vote anonymously. However, they may modify their vote while the survey is still open. The maximum duration allowed for the voting period is one week, with one hour being the minimum. The maximum number of responses will be 10, and both the text of the responses and the questions will be reviewed by the AutoMod content moderation bot.
With this function now active, users will be able to stop using emojis or bots as a way to vote on a topic, as they used to do until now. «We finally (!) added polls to Discord. “That means you no longer have to ask people to vote on things with reactions and then discover that your friends prefer to spam you with clown and anime emojis,” they commented from Discord on YouTube.
The reactions of the platform’s followers on YouTube have celebrated this update, although some point out that it would be better to create a special permission to use them, fearing that spam users will make annoying use. They also indicate that it would be desirable for the surveys to have no time limit.
All instructions on creating surveys are available at this page frequently asked questions on the official Discord website. The new feature may take a couple of days to reach all users.
How to create a poll in Discord
To take a survey in the desktop application, you will have to click on the ‘+’ button to the left of the channel text field and click on ‘create new survey’. There you can enter all the information and, once it is complete, click on ‘Publish’ to send it.
In the mobile device app the process is the same. However, Discord recommends using version 221 or later of the application for a better user experience.
Discord has shared the news through YouTube, and its followers are evaluating very positively that the video once again uses the brand’s characteristic tone of humor. The previous video uploaded by Discord to YouTube related to loot boxes broke a record of views ‘accidentally’ through bots.
