We will start with one of the most outstanding features of the electric Nissan Ariya and that are obvious: the design. The appearance has undergone very few changes, compared to the Ariya Concept presented at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.

The Japanese SUV presents a design that brings it closer to the luxury or premium segments, with a very sporty and coupé line, but elegant at the same time. The front stands out, with a black section that emulates the traditional V-Motion front grill. Inside we see the brand’s new logo and, at both ends, we find a thin and sharp optical group with LED technology.

In profile view, gloss black wheel arches and sills are visible, as well as clean, rounded surfaces for aerodynamics, a sloping coupé-style roof in gloss black and 19-inch wheels in a five-spoke, cut-away design. aerodynamic, although they can be optionally 20 inches.

At the back, we find a double shark fin on the roof, a large upper spoiler, a sloping rear window and narrow, horizontal LED headlamps, which run from one end to the other across the entire width of the car and where the name of the brand.

The interior of the Nissan Ariya

If we go inside, we find a cabin where a premium and refined atmosphere is breathed, accompanied by a very minimalist and technological approach. On the dashboard, the leading role is for the 12.3-inch digital screen of the multimedia system, together with another screen that acts as instrumentation.

The steering wheel features a two-spoke design and has a large number of integrated buttons to perform different functions. It may not be the most ergonomic, but it speaks volumes about the technological potential of the Ariya.

The multimedia system has voice recognition and is activated by saying ‘Hello Nissan’. It is capable of recognizing commands through natural language and is connected to the internet via 4G.

The rear seats are spacious, although it is not the best in its category in this section. An Ioniq 5 or a Volkswagen ID.4 have more legroom, for example. Nor does it excel in boot capacity: it offers 466 liters in front-wheel drive versions and 415 liters in the e-4ORCE variant.

Three versions available

The Nissan Ariya can be chosen between three power levels, 218, 242 and 306 hp and two battery capacities, one with 63 kWh and the other with 87 kWh. The less powerful version has front-wheel drive and a 63 kWh battery, which allows it to travel about 360 kilometers on a single charge.

The intermediate variant is also front-wheel drive and includes the 87 kWh battery. This version is the one that approves the greatest autonomy: 525 kilometers with a recharge. The most powerful option also equips this battery and, in addition, an all-wheel drive system called e-4ORCE. In this case, the autonomy is reduced to about 340 kilometers.

In general, the Nissan Ariya stands out for a very smooth ride and a behavior that will please those who are used to driving a relatively sporty car, due to the hard setting of the suspensions.

Being electric, it has a ZERO label from the DGT, so you don’t have to worry about traffic restrictions in cities and, specifically, in Low Emission Zones.
