The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) asks drivers to be careful in the face of the high risk of snowfall during the day tomorrow, February 23.

Snow is part of the winter season, a weather condition that particularly affects road driving and poses a danger that requires extreme caution at the wheel. Given the high risk of snowfall for tomorrow’s day, February 23, in much of Spain, the DGT asks drivers to be careful.

The snow level will be low and could affect the northern half of the Peninsula during the day on Thursday, so the General Directorate of Traffic calls on drivers who have to use the car to check the state of the roads , and remember that it will be mandatory to carry chains or winter tires to travel through some sections.

According to the forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the snowfalls will mainly affect the northern provinces of Spain, in Castilla y León, and the easternmost part of Castilla-La Mancha.

Given the forecast of snowfall that may affect traffic on the roads, the DGT may establish measures such as traffic restrictions for heavy vehicles and vehicles that do not have winter tires or chains, limit speed and prohibit overtaking, total preventive cuts and obligatory monitoring of alternative diversions.

Tráfico has prepared for its operation the 32 automated and monitored diversions for the bagging of trucks, which could be activated if necessary.

Finally, the DGT recalls that it is important:

  • Clear the left lane to allow the passage of road maintenance vehicles and snow plows.
  • Pay attention to the signage on the variable message panels and to the indications of the agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard.
  • Exercise extreme caution when driving through the areas and roads affected by this provision, as well as having the appropriate means and equipment to travel safely, including chains or winter tires.
  • Know the colors of the snow and its circulation conditions.

The General Directorate of Traffic will report on the traffic situation through the media, especially in newsletters on radio stations, on social networks, on its website and on the 011 telephone number.
