Today it seems that the trend is to use ChatGPT for everything that comes to mind. And the obsession is getting to a point where it’s getting out of control. Therefore, keep in mind that if you had thought about using artificial intelligence to look for a job, the truth is that it will not be a good idea. A study explains why.

Preparing the resume to send it to job offers, as well as everything that must be attached as an extra, can be a heavy job. Because of this, some people have started to depend on ChatGPT to take care of it for them. The idea, however, does not seem to bode well. A study carried out in the United States explains what you should take into account if you are considering delegating your documents to AI.

they have already tried

The study published by the company iCIMS reveals what has been the effect of the use of artificial intelligence by a generation of graduates who have participated in the research. It is important to note that these students were just graduating at the time that ChatGPT was beginning to grow and make headlines in all media. That is to say, while they were looking for their first job they found the news and the boom of having the AI behind them tempting them with means to simplify their work processes. Of course, it was reasonable to get carried away with the moment.

In order to gather quality data, 1,000 university students participated who, as we indicated, were at a critical moment in their lives with the leap into the job market ahead of them. The results show that 25% of those surveyed had already used AI for tasks related to job search at that time, while 47% were interested. In particular, it seems that the support of ChatGPT had a special value when it came to preparing the cover letters that usually cause such a headache for candidates.

This is the problem

In parallel to the survey that iCIMS has carried out among students, what the entity has also done has been to get in touch with 500 human resources professionals. To do this, they have had all kinds of companies in the United States to test what would happen if these people were to receive documents made by AI when reviewing applications.

As you can possibly imagine, a large part of the respondents, around 40%, said that they would not be happy with this type of situation. Detecting that a candidate has prepared their resume, cover letter, essay or any other document, through the use of ChatGPT, would become a reason for immediate rejection. And think that, with how difficult it is to find a job, you eliminate 40% of the possible offers. No one would want to find themselves faced with that difficulty.

The problem for these HR professionals is that, today, there are no AI job detection systems that are as good as you might imagine. Yes, there are some tools, but most of them don’t work as well as they should and don’t usually get 100% efficient results. No one forgets what happened recently with a professor who accused a student of having used AI in one of his works when, in fact, he had produced it personally without the help of ChatGPT. Therefore, at the moment it can be verified that this type of detectors do not work in a guaranteed way.

For this reason, there are graduates and all kinds of people who are turning to AI tools to prepare their cover letters. All they do is, when ChatGPT has finished typing, make some edits and make sure the text sounds human. However, do not be overconfident, because the day may come when AI detection will be instantaneous.
