Over recent times, there are many new developments and changes that we are seeing in the laws regarding paternity or maternity leave. Lately, we have come across good news related to time and rewards related to all of it.
This presents some important advantages and benefits for all those who have recently had children, regarding their current job. In fact, in these same lines we are going to mention a series of changes to this paternity leave that are not going to convince anyone.
Many are waiting for certain news that must occur regarding the remuneration of these parental leaves. But the truth is that for the moment those affected are waiting for the central government in our country to make these permits paid, either partially or totally. Even so, while waiting for what we are telling you, an important development has just occurred that has directly to do with the vacations to which we are entitled in our employment.
Specifically, we are referring to a new ruling that has just been made public and that will affect many workers who have just had a son or daughter. It addresses a key issue related to parental leave that many currently enjoy or will soon do so. Specifically, we are referring to the leave that many new parents enjoy for 8 weeks and its impact on vacation rights. As we mentioned before, this is not good news for those affected who have just had a baby.
Parental leave will not generate vacations
To give you a more approximate idea of what we are talking about, here we refer to ruling 2478/2024. Based on it, the court has decreed that the 8-week parental leave, from which many enjoy or will soon benefit, does not accrue vacation days.
In short, all those weeks that we are on parental leave because we have had a baby, will not accumulate vacation days for the future. Therefore, this year new parents will have fewer vacation days off than in past years. The main reason for all this and why this ruling that we are telling you about has been established is that it is considered that while he is on parental leave, the contract that we have signed with the company is suspended.
For example, this is the opposite of what happens in those cases in which we are forced to take medical leave, since here the aforementioned vacation days do accumulate. Despite all this, many experts hope that when the leave becomes paid, this situation, with the vacations to which we are entitled, will change and will be counted during the weeks of parental leave.
Therefore, and given the bad news that we present here, now we only have to wait for the evolution regarding the remuneration of parental leave in case the vacations are accumulated again in this case.
