What are these cars?
For starters, what are A-labeled cars? In reality, this label does not exist, there are no cars with an A label. The DGT does not recognize this label, there is no reference to this label on its website. Although, in the Official State Gazette, we can find mention of these vehicles. And analyzing the information, which roads can these cars enter?
The labeling system included in the BOE nº184 of the year 2018 if it talks about cars with label A. In this text we find mention of 0 emission vehicles, ECO vehicles, C vehicles, B vehicles and A vehicles. And in the latter the definition is the following: “Any motor vehicle that, due to its classification in the Vehicle Registry, does not meet the conditions or requirements for obtaining the 0 emission, ECO, C or B classification”.
Therefore, it is not correct to speak as such of cars with an A label, because they are not given any label. They simply do not meet the requirements to have a label. And with this we refer to the gasoline registered before the year 2000, and the diesel before the year 2006. In other words, they would be the gasoline before the Euro 3 regulation, and the diesel before the Euro 4 regulation.
And since this year, access to this type of car has been banned at different points in Madrid. They cannot enter the central almond of the city, the area to be found inside the M-30 ring road. But this is not all, more restrictions will soon arrive that will affect some 300,000 vehicles according to estimates. The districts affected are those of Centro, Arganzuela, Retiro, Salamanca, Chamberí, Chamartín, Tetuán and part of the districts of Moncloa-Aravaca and Fuencarral-El Pardo.
Although there are exceptions. Yes, vehicles intended for the urban distribution of goods, vehicles adapted to be driven or for the transfer of people with reduced mobility and historic cars may continue to circulate. Also emergency vehicles and those of the armed forces. Likewise, motorcycles will be able to continue entering. Of course, from 2023 they will be able to limit access to the M-30 to these vehicles.
