The appearance of ChatGPT in our lives has been totally revolutionary. However, OpenAI doesn’t want its AI tool to stagnate. For this reason, from time to time new functions are added so that interest does not wane. Do you want to know the latest news?
Your level of studies, your profession or your age could be key for the famous chatbot to answer exactly what you need. Its developers know this and that is why they have created a new function that wants to know everything about you.
personalized instructions
Beyond asking ChatGPT to write a text in a commercial tone or to give you the solution to an Excel formula, this text generator needed even more customization. So much so that OpenAI has added personalized instructions so that the answers adapt to your level of studies or professional.
For example, if you are studying Medicine and you are in the 5th year of your degree, this information will be useful for ChatGPT to answer your questions to a more appropriate degree. But do you have to tell him this information every time you ask him something? No, hopefully the AI will know with once you tell it and it will generate responses for you at that level of knowledge. Basically, it’s like when you use the Google assistant and you don’t constantly say “Hi Google”.
One positive part of this new feature is that the personalized instructions help reduce time and effort on the part of the chatbot. ChatGPT will remind you and your requirements to show the answers you are looking for, without having to rectify it several times.
It is in beta phase
Do not run to your account to activate this function because you will not find it yet. As you know, ChatGPT wants to give priority to users who pay a monthly fee to try new features before other free users. However, for $20 a month you could access this feature in beta to see if it’s really worth it. Although it must be borne in mind that this function is available for now in the United States, and it is expected that it will reach Europe in the coming months.
It can be entered from the mobile or from the computer browser. Just go to Settings > Beta Features/New Features > Custom Instructions.
But, since it is a feature that is in beta phase, it is likely that there are some bugs. For example, it has been shown that if you give custom instructions like “encoder working in a specific language”, ChatGPT may focus on the language rather than the format, and the response will be chaos. Note that it won’t always interpret custom instructions perfectly; sometimes you can miss some instructions or apply them when you didn’t want it to.
Also, as good as it sounds, there are certain privacy risks. We are giving personal information to an AI bot, both our profession and the level of studies or age. So we must be clear if running this risk is convenient to find an answer that fits the question. Even so, OpenAI ensures that it will remove “personal identifiers” that it finds in custom instructions. And, if you get tired or don’t build confidence, you can choose to edit or delete them, though they will show up in your chat history unless you delete them there as well.
