The BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe vs. Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance vs. Porsche Taycan Turbo S: combustion vs electric
An old-school V8 engine, a sophisticated plug-in hybrid derived from Formula 1 and an all-electric system: three different recipes with the same goal: maximum fun on the track.
BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupe
If there were points for design, this BMW would be covered, with its magnificent flowing lines and many carbon elements (which, yes, are optional in a package that exceeds 5,000 euros.
And running? Well, just as captivating: it feels light, and is especially fun on twisty roads, with finely adjustable oversteer. The braking is forceful and very manageable, yes, with ceramic discs that cost almost 10,000 euros.
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance
With 5.05 meters and four doors, this Mercedes exceeds the usual dimensions of a race sports car, however, the proportions are correct.
On the move he has achieved the best time on the circuit thanks to a splendid chassis configuration and a constant and devastating push.
The rigid rear spoiler is part of the AMG aerodynamics package. It looks sporty, but it steals a bit of elegance. Add optional 5-spoke forged wheels, though ceramic brakes come standard.
Inside I find some GT-style air vents, and a new steering wheel with thumb sensor buttons. It takes getting used to, but in the end it works very well.
Porsche Taycan Turbo S
On the outside, it is what a four-door Porsche 911 would look like. This Porsche drives stoically, hardly ever gets out of hand, but the rear end remains communicative.
The standard LED matrix headlights give excellent illumination, the Mission E style wheels are standard, the high-gloss black finish costs more than 1,000 euros, and it really looks good on it.
It is an electric car with a motor on each axis, so the sound is not as captivating as that of its two rivals, which have a V8 (the BMW) and a plug-in hybrid system (the Mercedes). Only on the steering wheel of the Taycan S are there real buttons, the cockpit fully enters the digital age.
Factors to decide the purchase
On the circuit the Mercedes has been unbeatable. AMG’s hand is felt in every corner, and also in the way it catapults down the straights.
Position 3. BMW M8 Competition Gran Coupé. It yields a powerful 625 CV, but it is not enough to stand out on the circuit against its rivals.
Position 2. Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance. The king in terms of performance with Formula 1 genes, but very expensive.
Place 1. Porsche Taycan Turbo S. Wins on price and maintenance, and is also the most fun on the track. Yes, an electric wins a comparison of sports cars on the circuit. Times are definitely changing, and in what way!
