Instead of wheels, it has tracks with which, in addition, the ground clearance is raised

Cupra Formentor VZ5 Mattracks. No, don’t try to search the Cupra website for this very special version, because you won’t find it. Which is a shame.

Yes, because this Cupra Formentor is the definitive machine. An artifact that would delight any lover of special pots.

In fact, it is a Cupra Formentor VZ5, the jewel in the crown of the Formentor range, to which specific tracks from the specialized brand Mattracks have been mounted.

In the past we could already see a Cupra Ateca shod with such unique shoes, ideal for moving through snowy or icy areas such as, for example, the Arctic Circle, a location where AUTOBILD.ES has had the opportunity to get to know it and get on he.

Driven by the pilot Jordi Gené, who was dragging, in turn, a professional snowboarder, the Cupra Formentor VZ5 Mattracks crossed an area with a lot of accumulated snow during the exhibition with hardly any ruffles, as you can see in this video.

Of course, neither the Borrasca Filomena – which last year paralyzed half of Spain, especially Madrid – nor any other type of adverse weather phenomenon can stop this brown beast wearing these caterpillars.

What’s more, if last year, in the middle of a Filomena storm, this artifact had existed, surely the Cupra brand would have struck a chord.

Almost, almost like a ‘normal’ Cupra Formentor VZ5

According to those responsible for Cupra, this spectacular rare bird is practically a normal Cupra Formentor VZ5.

And that the Formentor VZ5, whose production is limited to just 7,000 units for as many lucky ones, is anything but ‘normal’. The jewel in the crown of the Formentor range has a carbon fiber grille and bumper.

At the rear you can also find elements in carbon fiber and, above all, the most characteristic detail: the diffuser and the exhaust outlets in a diagonal position.

Although the best is under the hood: 2.5 TSI five-cylinder engine and 390 hp (of Audi origin), 480 Nm of torque, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and reaching 250 km/h .

In this sense, the main modification that the Cupra Formentor VZ5 with Mattracks tracks has undergone has been in the brakes section, which in the series version are optimized with respect to the rest of the Formentor range.

In this case, as it was shod with this track system, it did not require such an improved brake system.

For this reason, this unique Cupra Formentor had the setup of the braking equipment softened, and the size of some components of the arrest system assembly was reduced.

On board the Cupra Formentor VZ5 Mattracks

In addition to seeing it in action, this journalist had the opportunity to ride the Formentor VZ5 Mattracks, driven by Jordi Gené.

The feeling is –apart from the logical distances– like doing it aboard a kind of panzer.

As Jordi Gené told us, it is not only the feeling that the Cupra Formentor VZ5 Mattracks is unstoppable, without loss of traction of any kind, it is above all the fact of driving at a higher altitude, as if floating, and with the certainty that at having greater ground clearance, there is no risk of getting caked, no matter how bad the terrain is.

Without a doubt, a unique and definitive Cupra weapon…
