Once again, the audience data shows that television consumption in Spain continues to drop from one year to the next. Although there are positive points. One of them is that, during the month of July, the daily consumption time increased by up to 4 minutes compared to the previous month. And, secondly, the “other uses of the television” continue to increase with the passing of the months in our country.
It’s not all bad news. Despite the fact that, during the month of July, consumption was more stable and the daily consumption time per viewer even increased by four more minutes compared to June, the truth is that if we look at the figure for July 2022 we see that lowers people’s daily TV consumption by two minutes.
On the other hand, it should also be noted that the number of unique viewers accumulated in the month was somewhat lower than during the previous month. Just like the drop from 28.5 million to 26.5 million Spaniards who decided to watch DTT for at least one minute every day.
Watch TV a day falls in July
In the latest audience report from Barlovento Comunicación, it can be seen how the daily average number of people who watch television in our country has fallen by 2 minutes compared to the same month last year (-1%). And it is that each person came to dedicate an average of 2 hours and 48 minutes a day to watch DTT. It is even less than last June, which was 2 hours and 58 minutes a day.
On the other hand, as we mentioned before, the unique viewers that accumulate each month also decreased: 43 million. This means that almost 93% of the population has turned on the television. In addition, there are 3.3 million users who have not watched TV at any time, that is, 7% of the population, according to the latest figures from Barlovento.
In addition, it should be mentioned that the daily consumption time per viewer (those users who turn on or watch TV every day) has been 293 minutes, this means that it grows up to 4 minutes compared to the month of June 2023.
The other uses of TV continue to rise
One of the most striking points in these latest audience data is that the section on “other uses of television” (other than conventional television) continues to grow, which is also included in this report every month. The figure for the previous month was 19% of the total use of Smart TVs. However, for the month of July this percentage has increased again by 1%, so other uses already reach 20% in Spain. Although it must be taken into account that viewers are the same (2,447,000 viewers, the same as the previous month), but as traditional consumption falls, other uses increase.
The average consumption of these other uses came to be, during the month of July, 41 minutes, that is, 9 minutes more than in July 2022. In any case, this data reflects very well how the consumption of TV Traditional technology is changing, so more and more people are turning to their smart TVs with Internet access to watch YouTube, streaming platforms, play video games, watch recorded content on their TV, etc.
