Ford Mustang California Special

For the first time in Europe

Ford has decided to market, for the first time in Europe, a special edition of its most iconic model of all time. This is the Ford Mustang California Special: the Californian dream arrives, for the first time, in Europe.

Until now, the oval brand only sold these special editions in the United States. But, now, the Mustang California Special crosses the pond and disembarks in the old continent, offering a more exclusive product.

Embodying the free spirit of the 1968 original, the new California Special is offered exclusively in convertible and folding soft-top variants. It includes a design package with exclusive details, 19-inch alloy wheels and special badging. All this powered by a 450 hp V8.

Ford Mustang California Special: the spirit of the original 1968 Mustang

When the Ford Mustang hit the streets in 1964, owner clubs sprang up across the United States, and many regional dealers created their own custom designs.

One of them was the California Special, inspired by the 1967 Shelby GT notchback prototype, which featured a blacked-out grille, fog lights, and racing side stripes that ended in front of the new rear side air intakes, as well as a Shelby-inspired spoiler.

In 1968, Ford produced a limited number of California Specials. Now, this new interpretation of the original sports a honeycomb grille finished in Ebony Black, with GT/CS badging in Carrera Red, as well as lower side stripes finished in black, red and grey.

The stripes, incorporating the GT/CS logos, extend from the front to the rear fenders and feature hidden ‘California Special’ lettering, nearly invisible in low light but shimmering in bright sunlight.

Inside, we find heated and cooled front seats, a customizable 12-inch instrument cluster, and the SYNC 3 infotainment system, supported by an 8-inch touchscreen compatible with Android Auto and Apple Car Play.

All the excitement of an American V8

The Mustang California Special mounts the 5.0-liter V8 engine with 450 hp and 529 Nm of torque, associated with a six-speed manual gearbox. This configuration allows you to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. You can also choose the ten-speed automatic gearbox, with which acceleration drops to 4.5 seconds.

In the driving aids section, it is worth highlighting the adaptive cruise control with pre-collision assistance and lane keeping alert, which comes as standard.
