Giant companies not only want to have streaming platforms so that users can watch movies, series or documentaries, they also want to go one step further and offer sports. As is the case of the American giants Fox, Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney. These three companies have come together to launch their own streaming sports platform at the end of this year, that is, in the purest DAZN style.
Users not only consume entertainment content such as movies or series from their homes, sports have an important place within the streaming industry. Hence, these three entertainment giants join forces to launch a joint streaming platform that is exclusively about sports.
What will the platform be like?
Many details about this proposal are still not known, but the idea is that by the end of 2024 it will be more than ready and launched on the market. And from what it seems, it will be the first in the United States. In any case, this joint streaming service focused on sports will bring together a series of competitions with the aim of attracting customers who are currently paying to watch sports on cable television. For this reason, they have in mind to include the main competitions.
Within this platform, the idea is to bring together sports channels such as ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNEWS, ABC, Fox, FS1, FS2, BTN, TNT, TBS, truTV, and even ESPN+ would be added, which already works. as a streaming platform. Among the contents that can be seen are: NFL football, NBA basketball, MLB baseball, NHL hockey or even soccer, including LaLiga. Without forgetting other motor sports, such as Formula 1 and Nascar, as well as other Grand Slam tennis championships, golf, etc. In addition to these competitions, there is also talk that university sports will be included.
In this case, each company would have one-third of the joint company. In addition, this new sports streaming service would be launched on the market under a new brand. Although, at the moment, it is completely unknown what it will be and, above all, what the price of this platform will be.
And in the words of Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, they see this platform as a great step for Disney: «The launch of this new streaming sports service is a significant moment for Disney and ESPN, a great victory for the sports fans and an important step forward for the media business.”
It is true that the creation of this streaming platform is not yet closed, since a series of agreements that continue to be negotiated between the three parties remain to be closed. Especially since there is no word yet on any name or the prices it may have. But, the planned date as we said is at the end of 2024, it could even be launched in the fall of this year. In addition to this, customers of this new platform would have the opportunity to combine their subscription with Disney+ or Max (in addition to Hulu). Although, for now, we just have to wait for them to present their new service.
