Free women’s football, this is DAZN’s new proposal. The idea of the sports streaming platform is to make its competitions not only commercially viable, but also sustainable. For this reason, it seeks to close an agreement so that spectators do not have to pay to enjoy its different competitions around the world.

‘New Deal’, under this motto, the streaming platform has announced its new proposal with which it seeks to give a greater boost to women’s football around the world. The main objective of this new campaign is to end the payment plan so that it can be viewed for free. For example, subscriptions to this content have already been canceled in the United Kingdom, so viewers will not have to pay to watch the rest of the 2023-24 season.

In this way, you can follow more than 20 UEFA Women’s Champions League matches, 48 matches from Spain’s F League, as well as many other competitions from other parts of the world. And all for free, although for now, only in the United Kingdom.

Goodbye to DAZN’s Victoria plan?

In Spain, the well-known sports streaming service markets the Victoria plan. With this subscription, which costs 9.99 euros per month, you can watch the F League, Women’s Superleague, Women’s FA Cup or all the UEFA Women’s Champions League matches. However, this new platform campaign does not seem to be applied in our country.

One of the first countries to benefit from this agreement is the United Kingdom, since DAZN has eliminated the payment plan and will allow users to watch hundreds of women’s soccer matches completely free of charge.

The objectives of the so-called ‘New Deal’ are the following:

  • A new agreement with the clubs to improve the match experience and offer better facilities, as well as increase the marketing of the competitions.
  • The search to close a new agreement with sponsors to have a long-term investment.
  • That greater distribution and quality coverage be offered by the media.
  • A new agreement in which those who have the rights to the competitions, clubs, brands and media collaborate to promote their growth and increase the media value of women’s football.

DAZN Victoria

DAZN believes that “women’s football is at a crossroads,” according to Hannah Brown, co-executive director of Women’s Sports at DAZN. For this reason, they see two possible futures for these competitions: «In one, interested parties come together to build an important global commercial sport. In the other, progress is slow and a golden opportunity to accelerate growth is lost.” That is why they consider that, since it has commercial potential, this opportunity must be taken advantage of, but this requires an investment over several years.

It remains to be confirmed in which countries this new agreement will apply. At the moment, DAZN in the United Kingdom has already complied, so practically half of the 2023-24 women’s soccer season can be seen for free. Will it be the same in Spain?
