If you are looking for ways to motivate yourself to complete your daily tasks, whether they are household chores like sweeping or washing or other things like studying for an exam or simply drinking more water each day, the Habitica app can be a fun way to encourage you to stick to your plan.

Doing day-to-day tasks, whether they are household chores like washing the dishes, or goals we have set for ourselves like learning German, is very difficult. We have to compete with thousands of stimuli every day designed to distract us from whatever we are doing.

Therefore, all help is welcome when it comes to helping us concentrate or, above all, to acquire motivation, an essential element that we often lack to follow a routine. That is why on this occasion we are going to talk about Habitica, a mobile application that can help us in these cases.

Basically, Habitica is an app that serves to “gamify” our daily task routine to turn it into a role-playing game. Gamification is what applications like Duolingo do: establish a system of points, rewards, rankings or challenges to turn any task into a game. It is true that, even using one of these apps, we are going to have to put effort on our part to let ourselves be carried away by this system and follow the game, but it can serve to encourage us and incentivize us to fulfill our obligations.

When we open Habitica for the first time, we can create our own personalized character, enter the habits we want to fulfill (learn a language, study for an exam, clean the house, invest time in a hobby, etc.), detail what the daily tasks are. and create a to-do list.

As we complete our objectives (you have to remember to check the app after completing your task) we can earn points, rewards, pets and items for our avatar, and even missions. Plus, it’s also a social app, so you can connect and play with friends to keep each other motivated.

Help to be more productive

The app already has more than 5 million downloads and a very good score of 4.6 out of 5 in the Play Store, and on social networks many users tell their personal experiences with it: «If you have executive dysfunction problems and love fantasy/D&D, please download Habitica! Tasks are “quests” and completing them gives you gold and EXP. I’ve had this app for almost 2 months and my executive dysfunction has improved so much!” says @LancerStiler.

But inevitably for some people not even an app of this type helps them to be more productive: “I hate being immune to Habitica apps, I spend five minutes using them well until I realize that the app doesn’t know if I’ve done anything.” tasks or not and no one can stop me from spamming the get rewards button until I get bored of the app” says @BlueWildfire. «The saddest thing in my entire existence is that Habitica never worked for me. I don’t know, it just doesn’t work. Other tricks yes. “I think I’m too lazy to log tasks there and too forgetful to open the app,” comments @thisisthemay.

That is why, as we said before, we must keep in mind that we will always need a drive and internal discipline for things to work, since these types of apps simply serve as a complement and extra motivation, but not as a total substitute for determination of each one.
