Honda CB800F, an irresistible eighties beauty

Retro is back, and the opportunity to recover motorcycles from the past should not be wasted, like this wonderful Honda CB800F.

Whether neoretro or retro, the point is that perhaps we are a bit tired of so much ultra modernity and we look back looking for our roots.

We have the best materials and the best technology, the best finishes and the best designers. Now we have to put them all to work in the same direction to create motorcycles that excite us.

Thanks to our Japanese colleagues at Young Machine magazine, we have a computer-generated image of what would be a new naked in the making from the brand with the golden wing.

The aesthetic is total eighties.

Based on the current Honda CB650R, a naked could be born inspired by that legendary CB750F Super Sport from 1980, a motorcycle with which the legendary Freddie Spencer participated in the Superbike category of the American AMA championship.

And it is that this 750 has the same base as the legendary Honda CB900F Bol D’Or, for what lineage it has and more.

It would not be necessary to make too many inventions. A new set of tank and side plates, an eighties seat and tail, and livery identical to Freddie’s naked, would be enough to bring her back. A round headlight and some large rectangular retro-style indicators, although full led, would give it the last touch.

The Honda CB800F would be a beautiful comeback of the 1980 CB750F Super Sport

Then all that remains is to add the four-cylinder engine from the CB650R -4T, LC, 16V, DOHC, PGM-FI- increased displacement to reach 800 cc, or slightly less. A 4-into-1 exhaust with the manifold from the CB650R would finish the ensemble off, extra stylistic license since the original CB750F had two exhausts.

And this is the original version, the 1980 Honda CB750F Super Sport.

You could also start from the engine of the great CB1000R and reduce its displacement, but we believe that the most appropriate thing would be to gain weight from the 650.

The idea is to create a retro eighties naked like the one illustrated in this article, without too many technical sophistications, in the style of the current Hornet 750, with three modes of power and traction control. And that it comes with a good price, of course.

If it had a power of 95 CV it would be more than enough, in order to be able to adapt it for the A2 license and have an ace up its sleeve to be able to sell more units.

At the moment it’s just a fantasy, but knowing the guys from Young Machine I wouldn’t risk anything against it, because they tend to be quite premonitory. We already gambled with the 2024 Honda CBR750R from a few days ago and we think they will be right.
