There is talk of four new section radars in Madrid, but the City Council denies it

Attention madrileñ@s and visitors from the capital and surroundings. Although they are not as well known as those of the DGT, Madrid has seven section radars in operation that monitor speeding in as many points of high traffic concentration.

Its operation is identical to those that measure the speed between two points on the roads managed by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT): a camera placed at the starting point records the license plate, the same as the one located at the end point; then, the system calculates the time it took the vehicle to travel the monitored section. If it is lower than expected, the corresponding complaint is processed.

Where are the radars of the Madrid section

As of today, as confirmed by the Madrid City Council, there are three section radars in operation in the capital. Are these:

Street/Highway Location
Cordoba Avenue Glorieta de Cádiz – Crossing with Doctor Tolosa Latour street
TO 5 4,000 – 5,700
TO 5 5,750 – 4,000

To these three section radars we must add another four installed outside the capital, these do not depend on the municipal government but are managed by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT). We show their location in the following table:

Road Kilometer point (monitored section) Sense
A-4 46,993 (4,050 meters) Decreasing
AP-6 49,263 (7,854 meters) Decreasing
N-320 318,005 (11,823 meters) Decreasing
N-320 329.97 (11,822 meters)

Something new?

The Madrid section radars have been in operation for a long time. In recent weeks, a rumor has spread that the Madrid City Council had added four new surveillance sections, specifically on the Ma-30, the A-2, the M-14 and the A-3.

From autobild.es we have contacted the Madrid City Council where they confirm that “there are no new section radars recently installed”. Nor do the previous locations appear in the latest update of the list of DGT speed cameras province by province.

What fines can they impose?

The fines for speed cameras are the same as those for fixed or mobile speed cameras. This supposes that they oscillate between 100 and 600 euros and can suppose the loss of up to 6 points depending on the speed at which the offender is captured, as shown in the following table:

It is important to clarify two things in this regard. The first is that speeding tickets admit a discount for prompt payment: up to 50% in case of paying in the voluntary period (20 calendar days from the receipt of the notification), but in case of paying with a discount the discount is cancelled. possibility of claiming the fine.

The second is that the cinemometers process the sanction in the name of the owner of the vehicle but this does not have to be the one driving at the time the offense is committed. If owner and driver do not match, the first must identify the second; Failure to do so entails an added fine.
