Honda has today presented the inevitable Type R version of its new Civic, a car that will arrive in early 2023 to complete the range of this model that had been announced until now available only with a 182-horsepower hybrid engine. The new Type R maintains the same 2-liter turbocharged engine as its predecessor, although according to the brand it is now more powerful (Honda has not published the final power figure) thanks to the adoption of a new turbocharger and the modification of the system of exhaust, which is now triple and has optimized sound modulation.
The brand also announces the improvement in the 6-speed manual gearbox that will have a revised system for matching the engine revolutions to the chosen gear by means of automatic acceleration of the mechanics. Honda also maintains that it has improved the guidance of the gear lever. Another improvement in mechanics is the incorporation of a new radiator that will improve engine temperature control.
The Brembo braking system has been updated on the chassis, 19-inch wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires are mounted and the controlled suspension is maintained with three predefined modes: Comfort, Sport and +R that intervene in defining the steering, engine response, suspension and sound and to which an individual mode is added so that each driver can adjust the car to their personal tastes.
The aesthetics are less radical than that of the previous generation, although they have widened wings, specific front and rear bumpers, a larger grille located lower, a hood with an air outlet, side spoilers behind the front wheels, a diffuser larger tail integrated into the underbody and a rear spoiler that increases downforce and has been moved slightly to the rear. This spoiler is supported by two cast aluminum brackets and is wider than the previous model. The Civic Type R will be available in red, pearl blue, black or silver gray.
Inside, it maintains the usual red upholstery in the Type R, the driving position has been lowered, blind spots have been minimized and sports-style front seats have been mounted that offer greater support for the driver’s body.
The Type R, which recently broke the Suzuka circuit lap record for a front-wheel drive vehicle, features an updated Honda LogR data logging system compatible with a mobile phone app that allows the driver to record various measurements on real time such as lap time, a 3D graph indicating the maximum friction reached by the tires and a scoring function that helps the driver improve his technique on the track.
Honda announces the arrival of this car to the European market at the beginning of the year 2023, but if you are interested in buying a Civic Type R of the current generation in this link you will find all the existing offers in cars.net
