How are the Cross versions (Corolla, Yaris and Aygo) different from the normal ones?

The Toyota Corolla, Yaris and Aygo are available with a Cross version that turns them into an SUV and adds extra functionality.

Some brands take advantage of the commercial pull of their most popular models to promote new ones. There are several examples on the market, such as the Ford Fiesta and its Active variant (the same goes for the Focus). Toyota does the same with the Corolla, Yaris and Aygo, all three have a Cross version.

First of all, it should be noted that Toyota does not currently sell two versions of the Aygo. Before, there was one with a touring body and another crossover, but since the last update of the model, it is only available in the latest version, called Toyota Aygo X Cross.

On the other hand, the Toyota Corolla and Toyolla Yaris each have a Cross version that, in addition, is quite different from the normal one.

Main differences between the Cross and normal versions of the Corolla, Yaris and Aygo: SUV/crossover bodywork

differences between the Cross and normal versions of the Corolla, Yaris and Aygo

We will start by mentioning the bodywork, something that is obvious, but that does not mean we stop manifesting it. The Cross variant adopts an SUV format, which means it has a higher ground clearance, a flatter hood, a higher beltline, black plastic guards and a more vertical tailgate.

However, the Corolla Cross is not the largest in its range: it measures 4.46 meters long, while the family variant of the same model reaches 4.65 meters. The smallest is the five doors, with 4.37 meters. So the Corolla Cross is located in an Intermediate position.

For its part, the Yaris Cross itself is clearly larger than the normal version. It reaches 4.18 meters long, while tourism barely reaches four meters (3.97). They are exactly 21 centimeters apart.

As for the Aygo X Cross, it is clearly larger in all dimensions than the previous Aygo and also has different proportions that make it a crossover.

specific design

In addition to the SUV body, another of the most outstanding differences of the Cross version, with respect to the normal ones, is the design. Both the Corolla and the Yaris change radically in the SUV variants, adopting a specific design.

In both cases, the design is defined by a common element: the Cross version projects a less youthful and more neutral image, by addressing a different public and, thus, pleasing a greater number of people.

Greater habitability

Toyota Corolla Cross

The direct consequence of having an SUV format is a more practical and livable interior, with greater headroom available and more comfortable access, especially to the rear seats.

This recipe is applied to all three models, although, in the case of the Corolla, those who need a larger trunk will find a better option in the Touring Sports family version, which reaches up to 596 liters, while the Cross stays at 487 liters. .
